browser-war

Many Tech blogs have started the trend of displaying the visitor stats and some times even the earnings stats at the end of the month. Technically Personal has made a tremendous progress over the last 3 months with over 200,000 unique visits to the blog and 500,000+ page views in the month of April. Well, that was not the intention behind this post. If you remember, sometime back, I had discussed about the Browser War not showing any signs of cooling down and taken my website visitors stats as the case study. TechPP's visitors come from across the globe and hence it should not be a bad idea to take it as a reference and imply further. 4 months down the line, it will be interesting to have a re-look on how things have changed (if at all!). I have tabulated the data from Google Analytics for 3 months - dec '08, Feb '09 & April '09 (gap of 2 months).

Browser Stats

Browser Dec '08 % Feb '09 % Apr '09 %
Firefox 59% 47.9% 43.66%
Internet Explorer 28% 38.88% 42.16%
Opera 4.5% 3.82% 2.37%
Chrome 4.2% 3.6% 4.37%
Safari 2.3% 5.26% 6.54%
Others 2% 0.54% 0.9%
Shocking!! Isn't it? Firefox seems to be losing against IE. But I doubt this is...

zoozoo No, they aren’t animated characters. They are human beings who were made to wear body suits. To be specific, they are women theater artists from Mumbai Cape Town. The design of the characters is such that one gets fooled into thinking it is animation. This was achieved using special material wrinkle free cloth which made the body suites look smooth (like in animation) and the ads were shot at slower than normal frame rate so that the movements look swift but funny. You can also notice that the expressions on the face are static and are changed only between the (shot) cuts.

cannot-delete-folder

I am very sure that many a times when you try to open, delete or move a file or a folder, you get an error message saying it is already in use. Even after trying to close all the programs which you think might be using the file, it still throws up an error saying -
Cannot delete file: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.
Many of you must be knowing about Unlocker which is used to unlock a file by killing the Windows process which is using it. But not all files are locked by Windows processes, some files could be locked due to a malware. With Unlocker, you will only be able to kill the malware process, but cannot delete it. Here is where LockHunter comes to the rescue. LockHunter is a free tool for Windows that is quite similar to Unlocker but with a twist. It integrates itself to the Windows Explorer right-click context menu, just right-click the locked file and select ‘what is locking this file?’ and it will show you the process that is...
Microsoft has announced that the Release Candidate version of Windows 7 will be available to the public as a free download on May 5. Microsoft will let users run the fresh-baked Windows 7 Release Candidate for a full year – through to June 2010, to be precise! So you can not only put Windows 7 through its paces on a day-by-day basis, you can do so for the next 13 months. This means the release candidate will still be valid for some six months after the Windows 7 goes on sale, which is tipped for late October or early November 2009. Earlier, in Jan 2009, Microsoft had let users download Windows 7 beta for FREE and that will expire in August 2009. So, having the latest RC version of Windows 7 (which is almost finished) should be a boon to everyone who would like to test-run it for as long as 1 year. Microsoft is clearing wanting to give users plenty of ‘quality time’ with the new OS, perhaps with the hope that the longer they run Windows 7 for free the more likely they’ll be to stick with it and hopefully buy it next year.
