I agree with the arguments given above. But thing is everyone need a start. if u think (from the start) that this or that company have the lot more share in market and ur thing will not get any attention … then i think its wrong.. the predictions may or may not be write .. No one can say what will happen.. Google didnt release the OS yet .. (but till then u Can predict) .. but when it will be released then it will be tested ..not predicted.. though i am using Windows ..even used Window 7 …but even then i am excited about the Google OS.. so lets see what others think…

What i will say … everything depends on the quality… If u have a quality and also have a Big NAME … then it will not be difficult to grab the market share… BUT QUALITY MUST BE PRESENT… Customers need quality not quantity …

Android is a Linux based system.

The idea that Google would reinvent the wheel is silly. Plenty of drop in replacements.

I’m willing to bet Linux or BSD (which is what the mac OS is based on) is being looked at.

Also if they truly wanted to try something new why not BeOS, ReactOS, AmigaOS, MorphOS, or Haiku.

It’s not possible..Windows is being used by 90% users in the World.
Also, google chrome is taking a lot of time to furnish so how long google OS would take ???

Nice writeup buddy. You have valid and interesting points out there, but as Ajith said, its definitely a tough way ahead for google to fight MS in the the game – if someone says OS, people always think of Windows however worse it be.

that’s true. But we know where Microsoft stands in terms of reputation right?

@Ajith,
You have a point. But you can never under-estimate Google. May be they won’t be able to displace Windows, but they can surely pinch a hole in their pockets. In case they fail, that might be the beginning of end of the Google dominance era.

In fact, the problem is not in bringing in a new OS. Anybody could possibly do that. Where Windows is strong is the userbase that’s established for the past 20 years plus the supported applications, vendors, ASPs.. Even Linux is struggling to penetrate into the desktop OS market since several years and I do not expect Google to do some magic here

(Google came up with the Android mobile platform couple of years ago and it’s still nowhere in front of Symbian, Palm, Windows Mobile etc)
