For a change, the rumors have turned into reality! The Brand New Sony PlayStation is here – PS3 Lite. The folks at Endgadget have managed to get their hands on a few ads and the pre-order page on K-Mart where the new PS3 Slim sells for $300.

In the UK the new PS3 Slim is expected to be available starting September 11 on ASDA for a rumored price of £250.

Pre-order / Buy Sony Playstation 3 Slim at Amazon for $299 only
Amazon has already started to take pre-order for the hot new Sony PS3 Slim for $299.99. It is a smart move by Sony to make the PS3 Slim the more attractive choice with a larger HDD. The current PS3 will most likely go away as soon as the inventory is cleared out.
Update:
Engadget published a first noise comparison test
While our tests were far from thorough, the initial results from our quick-and-dirty decibel ratings show some promise. With a baseline of 49 decibels, the Slim averaged 53 to 56 db when in use / playing a game / installing data (in this case, Metal Gear Solid 4), compared to the 55 to 58 db of the original. Blu-ray movie playback is where it becomes noticeable, as the slim peaked for us at 60 db when the original was doing 70 db running the same disc.

I just picked up a PS3 Slim for my home Entertainment center and thought I would just use it as a blue ray player but I was wrong,I thought this was going to be ugly next to my fat ps3 but I have really started to like this version a lot better, its so much quieter than my 1st gen ps3 and lighter.I have to say this is by far the best piece of home theater gear i have bought in a long time,i wanted to get a stand alone Blue Ray player but for 100$ more you get so much more.Excellent product Sony and it Decodes both True -HD and DTs-Master which is awesome.
