techpp-first-birthday

Whoa! It's been one year since I clicked on "Publish" button on this blog! And for some weird reason I feel its a long time. The morning of September 7th 2008, I suddenly took out my credit card and registered for a shared hosting account on Lunarpages which promised me hell lot of freebies including a free domain name for 2 years of hosting. I shelled out $120 which was like a huge money to spend on a hobby. All these happened in a matter of half an hour. Being instinctive has always helped me. I had to choose a name for the free domain and I zeroed in on "TECHPP.COM", again an instinctive decision. My life changed for the better, ever since TechPP happened. Hobby turned into passion. Passion turned into (secondary) profession. Along came money, recognition and responsibilities. A small statistical look at the year gone-by: No. of Posts - 630 No. of comments - 3343 No. of comments blocked by Akismet - 16,897 Page Rank - 3 Alexa Rank - 20,498 Compete Rank - 31,845 RSS subscribers - 2500+ Monthly PageViews - 700,000+ I always feel unsatisfied with these numbers, but then while writing this post I just...
Search engine technologies continue to evolve and are getting innovative by the day. Google's innovative marketing, along with technical brilliance and scalability have enabled them to get the major pie of the huge search engine market. The simplicity Google brings in with its user interface has added to its success. Those challenging Google had first tried to beat it in terms of "Real time search" capabilities, which Google comprehensively managed to address. Then came the Ajax Search capabilities, which again seems like being addressed by Google via its Google Ajax search API. So, what next? Is there anything which Google doesn't provide? Well, yes! Google doesn't provide visual preview of the site in its search results. Visual preview is important since the user will be able to preview a site before actually clicking to enter and will be helpful to stay away from "Made for search engines" web pages. Many a time, when searching for something, I quite often have loads of time-consuming tabs open with the potential and hope of finding a good resource and life would be so much easier if I could have had a preview beforehand. There are quite a handful of Firefox extensions which provide a...

Just a week back, Google announced that they are offering over a million of public domain books in EPUB format, which is supported by Sony's Daily edition reader and Amazon's Kindle. Google Book Downloader is a free utility that lets you download any book that's available in "full view" from Google Books. Of course, most of these books also feature download links right on the web page, but Google Books Downloader lets you queue up multiple jobs and convert all of the downloaded books to PDF files.
