Unlock iPhone 3.1.2 With BlackSn0w

The popular iPhone hacker Geohot has finally released the much awaited blackra1n RC3 with blacksn0w which unlocks both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS running on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with 05.11.07 baseband.

This latest version of blackra1n includes unlock and jailbreak for 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband, option for enabling native Internet Tethering on the iPhone, hacktivation support, 15 seconds speed improvement and support for OS X Tiger & PPC (PowerPC) Macs.


Here is what’s important to note:

* BlackSn0w unlocks baseband 05.11.07
* BlackSn0w enables internet tethering
* BlackSn0w is for iPhone 3G and 3GS users only

Those of you with iPhone 2G should follow the guide posted here for unlocking and jailbreaking 3.1.2 firmware. Here is a complete step by step guide on how to unlock iPhone 3G and 3GS running 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband with blacksn0w.

NOTE: Those of you who have already installed blackra1n RC1 or RC2 should just run the the app and touch on “ra1n”, which has been added now instead of “Icy”. This will upgrade blackra1n to RC3. Now simply follow the instruction written in Step 5 below to unlock your iPhone.

How to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 with blackSn0w?

* As mentioned above, if you previously jailbroke your iPhone using BlackRa1n and you kept the blackra1n.app on it, then run BlackRa1n. The Icy icon should be replaced by the “ra1n” option. Select “ra1n” to upgrade BlackRa1n to RC3. After upgrading, run BlackRa1n and you should see the “sn0w” option. Just select “sn0w” and it will unlock your iPhone.
* If you were waiting to update to 3.1.2 or if your iPhone was stuck locked, then download BlackSn0w, run it, reboot, and choose the “sn0w” option from the BlackRa1n.app.
* If your iPhone was previously jailbroken using PwnageTool or if you deleted the BlackRa1n.app from your iPhone, BlackSn0w will be added to Cydia later during the day.

Step 1: Download the latest version of iTunes if you haven’t already. (Download link)

Step 2: Update/restore to the original (stock) iPhone firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes.

Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS

Step 3: You will now have to jailbreak your iPhone running on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with blackra1n RC3. Follow the complete step by step guide posted before in order to jailbreak your iPhone 3G/3GS with blackra1n RC3.

Step 4: Once you are done with the jailbreak, start the blackra1n app and you should now see “sn0w” option as can be seen from the screenshot below:

Step 5: Now simply touch on “sn0w” to install blacksn0w on your iPhone. This will automatically unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS running 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband.

blacksn0w will soon be available on Cydia too. If you have upgraded to 3.1.2 firmware with PwnageTool 3.1.4, then you will soon be able to unlock your iPhone with 05.11.07 baseband with ease. Stay tuned for more updates on this!

    if you get stuck on the post install log screen with spinning ball for several minutes as i did and many of you have mentioned, just hit the home button and re-run the application again, install snow again from scratch and it does it in like 5 seconds. IT SHOULD NOT STAY ON THAT SCREEN FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS!

    i ran the blacksnow and everything was working fine all day,all the sudden the phone locks up,I rebooted and now all it will do is keep going into the recovery mode.PLEASE help.The phone wont do anything else.

    Hi.
    I restored my iPhone through iTunes and for some reason it got stuck on the “connect to itunes” logo. iTunes wont properly restore the phone since i dont have a “valid simcard without a pincode” in the phone. Blackra doesnt do anything to the phone but just says “running” while the “connect to itunes” logo is still on the phone. I have tried restaring the phone, charging it fully, letting it die and everything else I can think of but nothing works. Do you have any idea of what I can do? I don’t have the simcard that came with the phone.

    Thankful for any help!

    if you lose the simcard that came with the phone just go to att store or buy to go att, activate the sim care

    i’ve successfully jail breaked and unlocked phone so i could use overseas. now i would like to get rid of it so i can update to 3.1.3 without jailbreaking i tried restore, but said cannot restore invalid. why is that? is it safe to update the carrier settings not the iphone if its jailbroken?

    Tried to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS 32GB with 3.1.2 and 05.11.07 using current blackrain from the mentioned homepage. Program ran through, iPhone went in DFU mode, but afterwards no blackrain.app was there on the iPhone but only a link to a download page, that didnt work in iPhone Safari but required a registration and wanted to download a blackrain app with a couple of hundred megabytes. What is this? Anybody with similar experiences?

    Can’t seem to get Blacksn0w to work.

    Restored original iPhone 3G to 3.1.2 (7D11) firmware version, and baseband 05.11.07. iTunes version 9.1 (79), current version. Blackra1n used to jailbreak; that worked fine.

    Tried installing Cyadia and snow. Cydia installed, but snow got stuck on the “Post Install page”. Re-ran Blackra1n on the iphone and installed snow again … it appeared to work, and I got the full Post Install page.

    Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be unlocked. iPhone works fine on Rogers (my native carrier), but I get “No Service” on a Telus Sim card. Both carriers support GSM networks in this area.

    Any suggestions, anyone? I’ve run the full install process twice (with iTunes restores in between), but the end result is identical.

    I have problem that I can’t access the internet or any application that using data. I have T-mobile with data plan. The iPhone keep telling me that I don’t have data access plan. I can call out and receive calls but no accessing the internet. Help please?

    Raju, one thing is not clear that why Blacksnow is required ? I already unlocked my 3GS with Blackra1n, after that it starts working with Airtel but it is not connecting to sites on Internet. Also after restarting my phone, always need to run BlackRa1n…Can you give some suggestions regarding this whole matter..Thanks in advance for your help

    I have already unlocked and jailbroken my iphone 3G 3.1.2 with blackra1n and snow when it first came out. I do have slight issues with my wifi and push notifications. if i upgrade to blackra1n RC2 Final will that wipe my phone of all my apps and info etc? or will it keep all that info?

      uhhh i have the same ordeal/problem i keep jailbreakng the iPhone with blackrain but i ended up to the same iTunes logo this is so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    - installed cydia, rock and sn0w
    - ‘Reset Network Settings’ multiple times
    - ‘Reset All Settings’
    - rebooted the phone multiple times

    the phone still didn’t connect to t-mobile

    hi, i hv some problems here. my iphone is 3GS 3.1.2. i accidentally uninstalled blackrain application on my iphone. then, my iphone screen shows itunes logo and the “connect to itunes” logo. i’ve tried to jailbreak it again with blackrain, but it can’t be done. after the jailbreak picture shows on the screen, it goes back to the itunes logo again.
    i’ve updated my itunes software to 9.2.1, but i didn’t restore my iphone bcause i heard that if i upgrade my phone to 3.1.3, i’ll lose the unlock.
    i tried to jailbreak it over and over but it doesn’t work. now my iphone is useless, i can use it since i have to jailbreak it first. what should i do then??please please help me

    how long am i supposed 2 wait 4 black snow 2 install? i have been waiting about 20mins with my phone on the loading screen.. is this normal? should i keep waiting or try again?

      i waited for 30 mins, then return to home and restart blackra1n, reinstalled blacksnow and it took less than 10 seconds to install. my phone is unlock now
