Top 10 WordPress Posts in 2009 [TechPP Roundup]

The last day of 2009! The year just whistled past and we had a wonderful time over the last 364 days! List posts have always been the USP of Technically Personal and I was requested to do a roundup series by some regular readers. How can I ever say NO to you guys?!

I will start off the Roundup series with a list of 10 popular posts, related to Wordpress in specific and Blogging in general, published on TechPP in 2009. The frequency of posts on Wordpress dropped as the year went by, but still there were some really useful and popular posts over the last 12 months. The posts are not ranked as such, but just based on popularity in terms of comments made, page views and personal likings.

TechPP is Now Optimized for iPhone & Android

I know this is late, but on time for Nexus One launch! If you are reading this post via iPhone/iPod Touch or your Android phone, you might have already observed that TechPP is now loading faster than before and looking different than usual. We are now using WPtouch plugin for Wordpress, which is an entire theme package for Wordpress blogs. It is modeled after Apple's app store design specs and promises to make the website load lightning fast on touch mobile devices, show the content beautifully, all while not interfering with the regular theme.

Update: We had to take off wp-touch due to compatibility issues with other plugins. We are currently trying to figure out an alternate and better solution, will keep you updated.

I suppose this is really helpful for iPhone/iPod Touch and Android users as it speeds up the page load considerably and even the content readability seems improved. Google Nexus One Price – $530 Unlocked, $180 with T-Mobile

Hot news pouring in. The leaked pictures of Google Nexus one store pages reveal the price of Nexus One phone. Check out this leaked image coming via Gizmodo

What this leaked image confirms is that Google will sell it unlocked and unsubsidized for $530, and that Google will sell it by themselves. Plus, some other very interesting details. When we jumped with joy when those rumors of Nexus one pricing and release date came in, we were wrong. Google is not selling its phone at the cost price. So it is just another Android phone. If you want it subsidized, you'll have to sign up for a 2 year mandatory contract and pay $180 for the phone via T-mobile. There's only one rate plan: $39.99 Even More + Text + Web for $79.99 total. Most important one is this - If you cancel your plan before 120 days, you have to pay the subsidy difference between what you paid and the unsubsidized price, so $350 in this case. Or you can return the phone to Google. You also authorize them to charge this directly to your credit card.

Chrome OS Netbook Specifications, Price & Release Date Leaked

This is Much earlier than I expected! Yes! Chrome OS Netbook specifications along with its price and release date has been leaked by IBTimes and if their sources are right, the netbooks powered by Chrome OS will be small but weak, to cheap but powerful! Google's self-branded netbook will have a NVIDIA Tegra (probably 2nd gen) chipset and will come pre-installed Google apps, such as Maps, Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Search, and Voice.

Ylmf OS!: Ubuntu Hacked to Look Just Like Windows XP

That's not Windows XP, it is actually an Ubuntu OS hacked and transformed by Chinese pirates to make it look exactly like Windows XP and they have pretty much succeeded in doing that! It's called Ylmf OS! Why have they moved to Ubuntu? Because their previous release, a pirate version of Windows XP itself is being cracked down on by Microsoft. The official site of Ylmf OS! is completely in Chinese with no option to open the English version. The download page though has some five links to the ISO that you can download. But note that the OS's GUI is completely in Chinese as well.

For more screenshots, you can check out this page and you will be shocked to see that the pirated copycat Ubuntu version of Windows XP looks surprisingly close to Microsoft's version! Watch TV Directly From Your Firefox Browser

We have seen so many options to watch TV online and here is another viable and working alternate, especially for Firefox users. TV Fox is a Mozilla plugin that lets you watch TV on Mozilla Firefox browser. More than 2780 Live TV Channels are sorted by country & category (most of them are made available free by the channels).
