The buzz on the internet right now (including twitter) is about officially unconfirmed and unofficially confirmed Google Phone, which now has a name – Nexus One! A blog post from a Google executive on Saturday morning dropped hints that the company would release a Google Android phone of its own.
Quoting from Techcrunch:
Cory O’Brien, a San Francisco-based blogger, got his hands on one tonight and tweeted out that picture. He also notesthat, “Google Phone = iPhone + a little extra screen and a scroll wheel. Great touch screen, and Android.”
Now, that’s a great news. If you are still wondering why, instead of a carrier like Verion/AT&T/Sprint offering this phone, Google is going to be offering it unlocked, and you will have to set it up with a carrier on your own.
Unfortunately there are lots of versions flowing in, which kind of makes me skeptical if the existence of such a phone is actually true or not. Yes, biggies like TechCrunch & WSJ have confirmed it, but still the news is still based on what they have heard from couple of Google employees who were given a test device which is apparently the Google phone. As per TechCrunch, the device will be launched sometime in January 2010, i.e pretty close isn’t it?
The phone is “really, really fast,” says someone who has seen one in action. It runs on a Snapdragon chip, has a super high-resolution OLED touchscreen, is thinner than the iPhone, has no keyboard, and two mics. The mic on the back of the phone helps eliminate background noise, and it also has a “weirdly” large camera for a phone. And if you don’t like the touchscreen keyboard, a voice-to-text feature is supposed to let you dictate emails and notes by speaking directly into the phone.
Now coming back to the name, Daring Fireball reports that it has seen a string called “Nexus One” in the user agent logs.
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.1; en-us; Nexus One Build/ERD56C) AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
From the leaked specs, Google Phone does look exactly like the HTC Passion, obviously without the HTC logo.

Looking forward to this phone. I enjoy Google products
It would be interesting to see what this means to the Android phone manufacturers like Motorola, Samsung, HTC etc.
The Nexus One is a great phone feature wise.in my opinion it wont be succesfull in the long run.Why would people buy this when the can purchase an iPhone 3g for 100 bucks? Its all about brand recognition .
