Google has recently launched the URL shortening service along with other bunch of cool additions to its Toolbar and Feedburner service. Now sharing your favorite posts and articles is even more easier using Google Toolbar, and this feature is not just limited to Twitter, as mentioned in Google’s recent blog post,

You can just as easily share to Blogger, Delicious, Digg, Facebook, Gmail or other services. For those you use frequently, you can save a step by adding them as buttons in the settings option in the Share menu. We’ve also integrated with more local social networks — for example, if you’re in Japan, you can share with your friends on Hatena.

Download the updated Google Toolbar, today.

Changes in Feedburner

Similarly in your Feedburner’s account under “Publicize” tab, you will see the new options to shorten your feed urls and publicize them on Twitter automatically, and I do not think it will remain limited to twitter. More social media sites will be added later on. Cool! However, before activating you will need to add a Twitter account!

Note: Google URL shortener is not a stand-alone service; you can’t use it to shorten links directly. Currently, Google URL Shortener is only available from the Google Toolbar and FeedBurner.

There is Something Special as well -

I have noticed a very important point feature in this URL Shortening service specially for Feedburner. Previously, Google’s method to track traffic from feeds to URIs was creating new URIs! And the problem with that was that “Bloggers (publishers, authors, anybody) naturally copy those cluttered URIs to paste them into their posts. The same goes for user link drops at Twitter and elsewhere. These links get crawled and indexed.” And I think no one can argue in the loss of backlink benefits for our websites due to that method. I think this will reduce that URL noise and will create a more healthy and green internet! What’s your opinion?
