Nicely said. Also, few domain registrars (particularly those that run on SRSPortal) offer Registrar Lock that prevents a domain from transfer if the hacker gets to know the EPP code. Enabling this could also help domain owners.

yes, I can remember makeuseof.com and p2p.com as two instances. And using whoisguard will be useful only when your administrative email address is different from your regularly used email address, since many would already know about it.
