winrar-free-license

It’s already Day 27 of TechPP Mega Christmas Giveaway. With just a few days to go for Christmas, things are getting exciting here as well. Today, we present to you, one of the best and most popular compression software – WinRAR from RarLabs. Over the last decade, we have seen so many free and premium archiving solutions, but not many have managed to stay afloat on top for a long time. And without an iota of doubt, WinRAR is one amongst the few which has evolved over the time to be amongst the best currently.

WinRAR is a powerful archiver and archive manager that cannot only open all popular compression formats but also features it’s own. RAR files can usually compress content 8 to 15 percent more than ZIP or ARJ files. WinRAR’s main features are – strong general and multimedia compression, processing of non-RAR archives (ZIP,ARJ,CAB,TAR etc.), scanning archives for viruses, long filename support, programmable self-extracting archives (SFX), damaged archive repair, NTFS and Unicode support, authenticity verification, embedded file comments, and encryption.

Personally, I have always preferred WinRAR over other similar software like WinZIP, WinArj, 7zip etc. WinRAR is able to browse and unpack contents of ISO files. It also offers an option to integrate tightly into the Windows operating system during installation. This includes a very handy Windows Explorer entry which can be used to unpack or pack files directly in Windows Explorer.

Even the user interface is uncluttered and easy to use. If you don’t like the default looks, you have an option to easily change the theme by choosing your favorite from the available list of themes.

The header contains the menu bar which has the icons for all the important functions you would need. On the left, the sidebar contains the file browser similar to Windows explorer. A right-click on any file in the file browser opens a context menu with several options ranging from viewing, renaming or deleting files to repairing archives or setting passwords.

Someone new to WinRAR will find the Wizard feature (available in the header menu bar) very useful. It helps the users in packing, unpacking, viewing, rearranging, repairing and setting the passwords for the archives.

Users will also be able to test the archive or a specific file inside an archive by clicking on the Test icon. WinRAR tries to discover installed virus scanners automatically which can then be selected from a pulldown menu. It is even possible to add comments to archives and make them self extracting if you desire. Making an archive self extracting is very useful on systems without a compression software installed.

You can even convert the archives from one format to another, like ZIP to RAR or vice versa.

Advanced users would love the options provided during creation of an archive. There are almost 6 tabs providing various functionalities which at times make you feel overwhelming. User can simply click on OK without worrying about all those options as the default options are enough to compress the files added. But for those interested, they will be able to change the compression level, split the files into multiple archives, password protect the archive and many more.

    Hi,

I have found a long time agao that winrar is superior to many other archivers :

    - very strong cryptography : brute force password cracker have a very hard time compared to winzip
    - file names can also be protected when encrypting an archive
    - unique solide archive feature, that yield huge compression when compressing several revisions of a same file, for instance a .doc file
    - unique feature of archive protection with recovery data that can be added
    - profiles, in which password can be saved – no more typos when entering them

I have a licensed copy at work but would definitely like a personal license.

  21. Sean Says:

I have used winrar sporadically for years. I have tried many other programs but keep coming back to winrar as it both works well and has a clean interface.

  22. Eva Says:

I’m using WinRar because it can handle all the archive formats I encounter regularly. Also, I like to archive my own files as password-protected .rar archives, so that things like photos that I share with friends are safe and cannot be accessed by others when I upload them to a file host. For large files, the ability to split them up into multiple parts while protecting them with a single password is very convenient. As WinRAR makes it possible to use very safe, random passwords and as it appears according to what I’ve read that the encryption is good, I feel confident about the security of my data.

As for opening archives, I find it useful that I often do not need to extract them, but can open files or applications from inside the archive using WinRAR. That’s especially helpful when installing new software or updates. I use and try quite a lot of freeware programs, and many of those come as .rar archives. It’s convenient (if a bit lazy) to save the step of extracting the archive and then later deleting the extracted files from the hard disk if I can just run an installer from inside the program and then move the .rar archive to the folder in which I keep copies of my installers.

I’m on a new system and have only 4 days of the WinRAR trial I installed left, so a license would be much appreciated. In any case, thanks for this giveaway and all the others.

  23. criest Says:

i like to use winrar, becoz eventhough the free trial already expired, it still can be used in evaluation mode. lol.

  24. corno Says:

Over the years WinRar has become the leading brand in the field of archiving. It is the program-to-beat and has been so over the last decade. Need I say more?

  25. pooh Says:

    Thank for share.

  28. Mak Narayan Says:

I have used the trial version and I really liked this software. It has got good archiving speeds. Also though I never actually knew what maximum size it supported till today i always found it adequate. the password encryption abilities are also good. Twice I have used it on files on unsuspecting friends who could not unlock the file by brute force. Even for novice It has got a good interface. And what is more almost all finds of compressions are found and supported in this. So I really like this software.
    Hope I get it.

  29. WiREZ Says:

WinRAR is far above the rest in MIO.
I can take a large a folder of family pictures, say 1 gig large, and RAR it into small rar files. This allows my family from the other side of the country to get the pictures in there original size. Keep them in tact for printing.
This is by far the best, useful little piece of software I have had in a long time.

  34. syed hussaini Says:

Winrar is a very good compression tool. The compression is very high even in the normal compression mode. It supports most to formats which a software in its category supports plus the evergreen zip format. The self extracting module is very unique with an intuitive and good looking User interface.

I would like to get it very much because currently I am using best freeware competitor for it i.e. 7zip.

  35. Ryszard61 Says:

I really don’t care about this program, and never will bagger for it.

    Hi,now im using 7 zip,nice app but i prefer winrar………
maybe this time i win a license?

i think winrar is the best!

  37. Curt Henning de Thurah Says:

The reason I did not use WinRAR was that I didn’t understand why I would need it, and because I THOUGHT it was difficult to use! Now I know I need it, and I have been given examples of how easy it is to use. WinRAR even has a pause button in the compression dialogue! I would very much like it to replace my 7-Zip.

  38. Nuno Rodrigues Says:

Why I like Winrar? It’s like a swiss knife in terms of compression. Even with formats like ISO, I can work them with Winrar. What a time saver.

    Why I don’t use Winrar? Well, I don’t have a key…

  39. Parikshit Says:

I wish to use winrar ( legal licensed copy …:) )for followingreasons:
    1. It’s just error free.. i have used 7-zip, zip genius… but somehow always faced some or the other kind of issue… but never the case with winrar.
    2. Robust… Whether it’s archiving over the network… or extracting the same.. it just works flawlessly… with superb speed and integrity..
    3. Nice integration.. Customization of context menu items , options provided are the best.
    4. Simple and sober interface … easy to use and navigate through.. options are straight and intuitive…
    5. Retains folder structure of archive while displaying it’s content…( other utilities, including winzip, do not respect folder structure of archive).
    6. Hopefully the password encryption is one of the stringest.
    7. Archive created are rarely corrupted. ( I never faced such issue).

  40. miguel gin Says:

I am using winrar trial version. Would be glad to use WinRar full as it support variety of formats and its fast.

  41. talshl Says:

    Please, give me one license.

  42. 5000 Says:

    Hi, I want RAR license

  43. Radu Says:

I like WinRAR as it may handle precisely every archive type and it is the most rich in features among archivers.

  44. yooman Says:

I use WinRar for many years, since I bought my first computer. But why I use WinRar? There are plenty of reasons.

WinRar is very fast both at packing and unpacking. I like that supports a lot of file types and it can unzip almost everything. WinRar has a strong compression and it supports several compression ratios. Also, it can split a large archive into separate volumes, so that I could save them onto several disks.

It’s an all-in-one archive solution because it has a lot of advanced features: repair damaged archives, create self-extracting archives, password protection and encryption to secure the archives. Also, the interface of the program is nice and easy to use.

WinRar is one of the best and powerful compression tools. It’s a must have program for every computer. I would love to win a license, for legal using WinRar. Thanks for this great offer!

  45. doddymobile Says:

Winrar can create self-extracting with multivolume archives no other archiver can do that. very small installer and simple interface. amazing first look …..

  46. Srdjan Says:

I used this program in the trial version and liked it a lot because of the different functions, there was some 30 days … now it is no longer used because my trial expired … :)

  47. wombat Says:

using unlicensend winrar a long time now. i like the abilty for creating solid archives and verifying the archived data after compression. the self extracting creating routine is very easy to understand (not so weird like 7zip.. o.O). And winrar supports almost every archivetype i found so far and has a very strong compression on maximum.

hm. i just like winrar more than than the other compression progs :)

  48. sunkumarspace Says:

Excellent compression technology , good in speed but i just dislikle its trial version so i use 7 zip instead and hoping to win this one

    http://twitter.com/freewarespace/status/6927814351

  49. ven0m Says:

I use winrar, because its light on the system resources, its simple to use even my son knows to use it.Than its fast, supports most formats for compression. With winrar I can separate the large files in small pieces so I can upload or download it without fear of dissapeared connection.Winrar is the first software which I install when I am reinstalling windows. One word, its must have software.

  50. Taiwan Student Says:

WinRAR is small and useful than any other compress software.

  51. Paulo Says:

I use 7zip because I am new to the Windows world(always used linux),and 7zip has a good reputation on the NIX side.
I also have used the trial version of WinRar x64 on my Win7 and I think it is faster on multicore systems , has a robust set of features and the recovery record and recovery volume are very nice.

  52. jane babara Says:

i would really like to have a WinRAR lisence..i’m using a pirated version which my brother installed in my lap..i really like that it extract rar, files with speed & accuracy…want to taste a genuine license…count me on this offer…!

  53. jack Says:

from some years ago,i have used Winrar rather than Winzip.
It’s very Useful.WinRAR is a powerful compression tool with many integrated additional functions to help me organize my compressed archives.
    I hope win a license.

  54. Siba Says:

    I want one..

  55. Zorro Says:

Oh great, me wants a licence…

  56. Frankie Says:

I used Winrar for archiving big files because of the speed. Unlike Winzip, the interface is clean and easy to use. I started to use Winrar heavily in the past is it supported other filename encoding (like unicode, gb, big5, shift-jis) while Winzip was not (I don’t know right now because I did not use Winzip to compress file for a long time).

The filename encryption is a plus in Winrar. However, Winzip does allow you to encrypt the data, but it does not support filename encryption. So what is inside the zip file will be known by the people much easily than RAR compressed file.

Winrar can create recovery records while Winzip does not. Once I transferred a large RAR file but some of them were corrupted. Luckily, the recovery record feature helped me to get back the data.

But my office does not have the Winrar so I cannot use it at work, so I hope I can get a free license. Thanks.

  57. ray Says:

I use currently 7zip and pea zip because they have a good compression rate and between the 2 of them cover most of the archive types I run across, and are free. I’ve used the free version of Winrar like its interface, compression ratio, and the way it handles multi part archives.

  58. Anish K.S Says:

WInrar themes are superb, currently me using vista style.

  59. Number99 Says:

I love this program because it’s easy to use. Even a n00b will know how to handle it! :)

  60. Aang Says:

I never use a paid file compression before or even try it’s trial version because I know in the end I’ll never be able to buy it. I use other compression utility because it was freeware. Makes sense right?
I hope I can win a license for WinRar here.
    Thanks.

  61. ibheck Says:

I use winrar because many themes that are available and easy to replace :)

  62. codemaniax Says:

I use it because it is crossplatform and provides best compression/speed ratio.

  63. Syafiq Says:

I use WinRAR 3.62(from PC-Welt offer).FYI, before I got the PC Welt offer, I use a freeware archiver which is AlZip instead of using shareware version of WinRAR due to nags that WinRAR has for its shareware version. Once I know the offer, I grab it and use it until now. I choose WinRAR because for me, .rar has better compression ratio than .zip, WinRAR load fairly fast, can read and create an archive with fast speed. However, only one thing that WinRAR impress me up until now, it is very reliable. Thats why I entrusted all my archives to it.

  64. Raymond Says:

I’ve used WinRAR for quite a while since i got a deal a couple a years back for a free version. I use several pc’s and laptops now but WinRAR doesn’t have a (affordable) license to use WinRAR on let’s say 5 pc’s in 1 home. So i switched to 7-Zip which i like good enough but doesn’t compare to WinRAR IMHO.

To get a chance to use a recent WinRAR again would be great so maybe i’ll win a license. If not, here’s hoping Rarlabs will make it possible to get a multi-pc license for 1 user in the near future and doesn’t make me pay trough the nose for that :)

  65. Hady Says:

As you said Winrar was always my favorite compression program for best compression ratio, simple interface, supporting all kind of extensions.

  66. Raymond Says:

I use winRar because it opens almost all compression filetypes.

I also like the option of making a correctable archive.

    Raymond

  67. dilip Says:

    i need 1 license.because i always use this software.i hope win.

  68. HugheJass Says:

My favorite feature of WinRAR is its integration into the Windows context menu. The “extract each archive to a separate folder” feature makes managing multiple archive a breeze. I also work with VM’s very frequently which are many GB’s in size. I use WinRAR’s simple interface to make .rar archives that I can burn to DVD for overnight shipping to our remote offices. Its fast and easy – a staple utility in my bag of tricks.

  69. hideipuser Says:

I have been using 7Zip presently. It gives almost all features a commercial one can provide. Secondly it is an open source. A best alternative to those who cannot afford to buy a commercial license.

I would like to use WinRAR because it supports almost all formats or types of compression. It supports upto 8,589 billion gigabytes file sizes. It supports iso format which is the best feature I like the most.

  70. Matthias Says:

I use 7zip for zip files, because it has a double pane and you can drag and drop, but i’d love to win a license for winrar, because I have some corrupted rar archives I could possibly repair.

  71. Rick Says:

I used WinZip for many years, then when my kids started downloading from the Internet we tried WinRAR since WinZip version we had did not support RAR.

Now I’m using 7-Zip which supports RAR and many other formats. I originally started using 7-Zip for ISO image files.

A free license is reason to reconsider.

    Thanks.

  72. Gonzo Says:

I use WinRAR due to being the best compression software and most widespread along with ZIP. Its support for such a large quantity of file formats as well as its permformance compared to other similar software made me thing no further.
The repair function is awesome and save many old zip and rar files I had in old floppies and CDs.
It is also quite light in resources and you can password protect files without worrying that they may get corrupted or something.
I’d love to get the license for it; it’d come very handy.

  73. Gabe Says:

I have never used WinRar because 7-Zip is free.
I would really like to use WinRar, because rar has a better compression ratio than most other formats.

  74. binaryweasel Says:

For me, WinRar is the best full featured compression and archiving manager out there. I really like the fact that I can download one or two rar video files, of say 60. Then, if VLC or Dziobas Rar Player won’t play the rar files, no problemo. I just check WinRar’s ‘keep broken files’ box and unrar the piece of video file. Now, I can preview the piece of video w/ VLC or Dziobas Rar Player. If the video is what I like, I dowload the rest of the 60 files. Very cool, indeed. Furthermore, I like the ability to password protect archives for mailing or whatever.(WinRar will even encrypt the file names if I choose.)
Win or lose, A merry Christmas to Techpp and WinRar for a chance to win
    this truly mega giveaway.

  75. Steph Says:

    Hello.

    WinRAR ? Wow :)

    2 important points for me:

    1) The archive is corrupted >>>> repair archive!
And it’s very useful on the web …

    2) the possibility of fragmenting an archive into several volumes!
And it’s very convenient for mail …. And for the rest of the web…

====> It’s an essential tool for usenet !!!

I have a very old version and I hope to win : thank you RarLabs & TechPP ;-)

    Steph.

  76. kimlanvn Says:

I used WinRAR from version 3.5 ! I really good. Small size, high compress, repair error archive,… But, I cracked it. VERY VERY BAD ! I want a genuine license.

  77. Max_Payne Says:

Nowadays I prefer to use 7zip which is free and gives better compression at around the same speed as Winrar.

However Winrar has more configurable options, so I don’t refuse a license.

  78. Billy Markert Says:

I have not used it that much but feel bad about using the trail version all the time even though it is expired but still works. There may be things I can use it for but since I don’t own it I will never know.

  79. Matt Says:

Currently I am using 7zip, but would like to move to WinRar for a couple of reasons.

I really appreciate WinRars ability to add a recovery record to an archive. I would gladly give up a megabyte here and there to make sure I’m able to actually retrieve the information stored in the files. I also value the ability to embed a note in the archive so I can take a quick look and see what’s what in the file.

    Happy Holidays!

    Matt

  84. Willy Says:

I am using 7zip would like to change to WinRaR.

  85. Linu George Says:

I use 7zip and dont use winrar due to the cost factor and getting it for free would ease my mind:)… Thanks!!!

  86. Howard Says:

    Greetings -

I go all the way back to the days of the original PKZip program, which I used for years until it became necessary to upgrade to a more versatile program.

At that time, I began using WinRAR and it I think it really is the best of all the archiver softwares available these days because of the many options and safety features it provides. I use WINRar just about every day and would be very grateful to have a license for the full version.

    Thank you.

I use an old version of WinRAR. Its a very light and stable application. It may not offer the best compression in some scenarios but its without doubt the best all-around, time proven application and compression algorithm. Its a de-facto standard. It offers rendundancy trought recovery records which standard ZIP archives lacks, a very rich command line we can use for automation and through scripting in GUI-less scenarios. It offers encryption with AES-128, archive comments and we can hide the underlying file/folder names structure which can leak private infos. Its avalilable for 64-bit systems and compatible with the full range of Windows OSes. I would be more than happy to upgrade to the latest version. Thank you for the offer and the nice giveaway.

  88. Martin Says:

I have been a WinZip user, but the interface has gotten old and tired. I have heard many good things about WinRAR, and would love to have a registered copy to replace my old WinZip.

Thanks for the opportunity to win this great new product.

I would love a free licensnce of Win rar 3.90. I am using Peazip and would love to go back to Win Rar . I havent had much money to buy stuff so i am using a freeware program.

win rar is a quality program

  92. David Macdonald Says:

I recently switched from Peazip to IZarc. The reason was IZarc supports PAK files (I love dissecting those files. Many casual games use them to store data especially music files.) And IZarc has cleaner right-click context menu in Explorer.

Both have similar features – testing archives (although IZarcs test results interface is more intuitive tha Peazips), 128-bit AES encryption, create 7Z self extracting archives, email archives etc.

For WinRAR, Im interested in the The recovery record and recovery volume feature allows user to reconstruct even physically damaged archives feature. I dont think Ive seen that feature in any archiving software.

  93. Lee Says:

I like it by the intuitive, easy to use and fast, but it is not free software.
I use it because it is crossplatform and provides best compression/speed ratio.
    Thank for share.
    Hopefully I will have it.

  94. Samuel Says:

I use Winrar pirate then i really would like to win a original key, recenctly i bought a win 7 to use on my PC for work but i cant buy everything, if possible i will win this one.

    Thank you.

  95. ThanksForOffer Says:

    Why I use WinRA?
I have been using Winrar since version 2.0 an dealing with nag screen all these years. The best part about Winrar is its comment screen which pops right-out when you open the archive along with simple but elegant interface. Also it has always been leader in compatibility with different archive formats, allows higher compression ratio, create solid archives, split archives, etc and the list goes on. Final words, I will not trade to use any other tool for my compressed archives even it would have been offered free. Winrar is king of compression tools.

I would answer another question in altered way that
    Why I don’t use WinZIP/Stuffit Deluxe/Powerarchiver… etc?

They do not have appealing interface and it never impressed me from day 1. Also when I tried other compression tools, my archives went corrupt on many occasions. Just personal opinion.

  96. Bionic Says:

WinRAR to me is userfriendly, light integrates well
Good ratio and much unique features i like such as encryption, repair, sfx, commenting, volume archiving

  97. Chigo Says:

Im using winrar since years, I started using the DOS version for its capability of making archive on floppy in a way much more simpler than winzip (I started using rar when studying in university)

Since that time winrar is my favorite archiver, even if 7zip is doing a very good job, but its interface is very poor

p.s. sorry for my bad english

  98. Jay Presely Says:

Im using Winrar because its easy to use, super fast and excellent interface. Hope to get a license

  99. Abhishek Says:

I currently use IZArc as it supports a variety of archiving formats but Ive used WinRAR earlier and it works very well with the supported formats. The best thing with WinRAR is its speed both while using program interface or while compressing/extracting files. Anyway, thanks for this nice giveaway.

  100. Sarik Says:

I would like to win a WinRar program. And though I never used it I read a lot of positive comments about it.

  110. jeremy Says:

I use 7-zip because it is free, not because it is the best.

Winrar is my first choice and will always be.
I 100% agreed WinRAR is the best archive manager around in term of simplicity as well as functionality, ease of use, user friendly interface, light weight and fast.
It is a fantastic piece of software and I am AMAZED.
It is not expensive. It is reasonaly priced.
I really wish to have one and many thanks for this great opportunity to own one.

Winrar is great and is well priced.
The reasons I did not use Winrar is just because it is not free and and there are many good free alternatives out there.

  111. John Says:

I hear that WinRar is the best and would like to use it

  112. wiusa Says:

I use 7zip but would like to step up to WinRar.

    Thanks

  113. alexv Says:

Nice soft. I use it registered or not so the start nag i think is unusefull. The cost is expensive compared to what the soft do. But i think its better than other products like winzip or winace because is more simple and well written.
I think the authenticy verification field must me editable and not equal to the license: an hidden field could be the license number (not visible) and a field an editable note to sign the rar file.
    Bye;)

I WANT TO EXTRACT AND COMPRESS MY FILES WHILE UPLOADING INTO ONLINE STORAGE SITES. IT WILL ALSO HELP ME TO SEND MANY FILES INTO SINGLE FILE TO SEND MAILS. GREAT GIVEAWAY. I HOPE TO WIN THIS GIVEAWAY.

  115. District Says:

Hi this is very assuring, hope i am lucky

  116. johnsson Says:

Currently I dont use WinRAR because I use freeware zip program but I will use WinRAR anywhere and anytime. IMHO WinRAR is nonpareil in the archiving software market. I deal with a lot of .rar and self extractables and I believe these are the strengths of WinRAR. WinRAR has many advanced features that set it apart compared to other commercial archive softwares. It would be awesome if I can win a license.

  117. BadLuckLuke Says:

Santa I would really really love one!!!

  118. jelson Says:

Although I use older version of WinRAR, I don’t need any other archiver because:

    1. It supports every archive file I typically encounter (even Linux archives!)

    2. It’s fast and has very good compression.

    3. I like the way it creates and handles multi-volume archives.

    4. Simple and intuitive interface which also includes a wizard.

    5. The context menu options are excellent. It let’s me easily and quickly determine where I want an archive extracted. This is a huge usability factor for me since I use it very frequently.

    7. It can also create archives in ZIP format if I need to send an archive to a friend who doesn’t have WinRAR.

    8. It can create self-extracing archives.

    9. It supports HUGE archive sizes and has offers recovery record creation to assist any repairs. This make it perfect for verifying data files backed up to CD or DVD. Not only can I fit far more data on a single disk, but I can also be certain that what I extract is identical to what I archived. This is critically important when burning back-up system disk images to DVDs.

    10. I wasn’t aware of that 3.9 could detect installed A-V programs. Very cool! I’d really love to win a license.

  119. skyx Says:

a long time ago, my first pc is use winzip as default. but it can’t support *.rar at that time. so i find this software Winrar and i like to use it, maybe it become habit. at this year, so many of freeware/open source software appear such as 7zip. winrar still in my PC of 30 trial-licesce, but it can use over 30 day just it usually pop a box to notice me it is a trail version.

  122. Teemu Says:

I’ve tried WinRAR and I found it much better than other similar software in every aspect. I’ve been forced to use 7zip because it’s free and I don’t have a credit card to buy WinRAR (other payment methods are way too complex).

I would gladly use WinRAR again :)

    Merry Christmas to everyone!

  123. Sujay Says:

Winrar is the best archiving software around. I like it because of its user interface, ease of use, archiving test , creating various archives.

  124. SmogHog Says:

I’d like to have one of these licences please.

My favorite compression and archiving software.

  125. Ninja Geek Says:

I use Winrar for the huge number of compression formats it supoorts for decompressing. And secondly I often compress my files in Winrar SFX archives

  126. Antonio Says:

This would be really a nice gift if I could win a license for WinRar. I presume it’s of better quality then 7Zip which I’m currently using.

  127. Christine Says:

I tried the trial version of WinRAR several years ago and loved it, but couldn’t afford to purchase. I still have ISO and RAR files, but they just sit there unused. Would love to be able to open them and also to use the software to expand my multiple-layered archive strategy. Its reliability over the years and user-friendly interface show why its still the gold standard for compression and encryption.

  128. peter Says:

    Hi TechPP
I would like to participate for winrar.
I use it because it is easy to use, and support many different archive-types. I like the script feature, that allows me to install on a specific path on the harddisk.
Also that it is easy to split a file to get it to fit on a CD or a DVD(any size you like).
When I pack files I add 5% recovery.
I sometimes use the script feature. For example if I backup my documents folder and move it to another computer, then to automaticly get it to install there, I make a selfextracting archive, and add the following in the comment field:

    Path=%userprofile%\My Documents
    SavePath

When I run the newly created executable on my other computer, it will automactically correct to the right drive letter and to the userprofile that you are logged on to.

    Merry Christmas to all.

    Peter

  129. Larry K Says:

  131. Luigi Says:

I use Winrar because its a great zip tool, Ive used it for years now, It can handle many different zip formats, which is really useful, and I still have it after all these years, and so I really wouldn’t mind getting a free copy.

  132. ADDRiVER Says:

I hope i am not to late today!

  133. Jean Le Bourdais Says:

Today we may buy 1Tb drives and over, but what seemed very huge a couple of years ago is just fair by now… With all we can grab on internet, with all the security copies of our CD and DVD we want to make, with all our photos and home videos, the 1Tb drive is soon filled up and we may say that this will be the case in a couple of years with the next peta, exa, zetta and yotta drives that will be built in the future.

What was true yesterday is still true today : all of us need to have a very good compression software for reducing the size of our folders and files so to get place for more files and folders on our drives (internal or external), because how huge is our drive capacity, this one is and will always be limited.

This is where WinRAR comes in : WinRAR is a compression software with one of the best compression rate on the market, which is the first quality we must seek in that kind of software. What makes WinRAR really valuable is that this software doesn’t limitate itself just to its excellent compression rate, WinRAR may also supports the most important ZIP formats we encounter and it may also protect all our sensitive folders and files with encryption and password protection. But that is not all : WinRAR comes also with a couple more of facilities which makes of this software a really “must have” product.

    WinRAR is the best.

Thank you very much TechPP and RARLAB !!!

Good luck and Merry Christmas to everybody ! :-)

  134. Mezanul Says:

Wow! You simply rock! The giveaway list is so amazing that I am at loss of words at what to say ;)

WinRAR is the best compression tool that I am using from my schooldays! I am using the trial version and will really be very happy if I won a free license courtesy TechPP and WinRAR.

  136. Morekari Says:

hi. I Use Winrar From Any Time Ego. It is a very PowerFul Software And It Is Very Best than WinZip & 7Zip. I Like It.

  137. Slipdisc Says:

My work notebook has winrar installed. When I need to use it, I must remember to transfer the files to a flash drive, compress them using the notebook, then transfer back to my desktop. Quite cumbersome to say the least. I tried winzip but just couldn’t get the hang of it.

So I sure could use this.

  138. ceylan Says:

I need a license because I take many photographs and need the best tool for archiving my photos which is winrar. Also the explorer extensions of the well known free zip programs causesthe explorer.exe to crash.I trialled winrar and it is the best tool for me.

  139. Mozart Says:

Please count me in for WinRar giveaway. This is a great compressing tool and I’d like to win a license for it.

  140. Andrew Johnson Says:

I absolutely love winrar. I haven’t bought it yet, so I use the free trial version. The handling of mutliple formats of archives make it the one piece of software I always install on every PC I work on or build. I even carry a copy with me on a flash drive on my keychain. Be prepared, as the boyscouts say. It has saved me from alot of headaches when going to friends houses to fix their PC’s.
And best of all, it doesn’t have that annoying counter on the splash screen, which makes you wait for 30 seconds or so when using winzip trial version.
Please .. let me win a liccense .. I’ve just built my latest computer, and its hard drives are a little bare.

  141. voor Says:

I use Winrar almost exclusively. Although 7zip usually provides better compression for BMPs, it can chew up an extreme amount of CPU and memory when compressing and decompressing. Winrar is usually able to compress almost as well, but the real advantages of Winrar are its abilities to create multi-part archives and append recovery data to each archive or part in case they get corrupted.

  142. Miguel Says:

    Hi :)

I like WinRAR and RAR files mainly because they provide an option to protect the files (“recovery registry”) and recover them if they get damaged. That makes them suitable for long-term backups on CDs o DVDs, media that after two or three years may have defects. Other compressed files simply skip a damaged file inside an archive, but RAR archives allow to recover damaged files.

Other good feature is the “solid compression”, that will save a lot of space while compressing similar (or even duplicates in different folders) files.

I would love to have one of the licenses :)

Anyway, thank you for these Christmas Giveaways. Merry Christmas :)

  143. MAAMH Says:

first of all; Thanks for the giveaway.
    Secondly; I like WINRAR

    let me tell you why

WINRAR helps some of us to keep all my important data SAFE using Encryption and keep programs away from viruses (rar all exe, bat.cmd,…etc files)

you know, WINRAR is a daily activity (on Computer life).
i will always like it even if i don’t get the giveaway.

    thanks for reading.

  144. Jill Baline Says:

WinRAR completely supports RAR and ZIP 2.0 archives. It is created with highly sophisticated, original compression algorithm and also has special algorithms optimized for text, audio, graphics, 32-bit and 64-bit Intel executables compression.
The number of files that can be added to an archive depends upon the amount of available memory and the length of file names. Roughly 128 bytes of memory are required per archived file for an RAR archive.
Solid archiving can raise compression ratios by 10% – 50% over more common methods, particularly when packing a large number of small, similar files. Winrar will also help you to recover physically damaged archives and its recovery volumes allows you to reconstruct missing parts of multivolume archives.
In conclusion, it is a powerful tool which allows you to create, manage and control archive files. It offers you the best way to convert files to rar, zip. It is a great piece of software and I would be delighted to wake up and find the up to date version in my Christmas stocking courtesy of Techpp rather than the usual piece of coal! Techpp rocks!

  145. carpe_diem Says:

    Hi,

Would love to win one license.

    Please count me in,

  146. Allan Joe Says:

I do not use WinRAR. I happened upon this posting while browsing for something else. I read the description about WinRAR and it looks like the all inclusive program that I was looking for. I have been thinking about the best way to save all the photos I take.

    I like that WinRAR:
    - RAR files can usually compress content 8 to 15 percent more than ZIP.
    - Allows you to add comments to archives and make them self extracting.
    - Allows you to change the compression level, split the files into
multiple archives, and password protect the archive.

and this seems like the coolest feature:
-The recovery record and recovery volume feature allows users to
    reconstruct even physically damaged archives.

I definitely will be trying out the trial version.

  147. Tommy09 Says:

I like Winrar cause it is such a powerful compression tool for Windows and also for Linux.

I like it for so many reasons, e.g.:
    * it’s based on simplicity and easy to use intuitive interface
    * it’s very handy explorer integration to extract files with just two clicks
    * it’s repair function to recover damaged files
    * it’s very nice sfx feature for simple installer creation and commentfeature for taking some notes
    * the very high compression rates at a good speed

and many many more, but for me the best two are

    * the really cool queuing feature (to enable it, go to options -> settings -> compression -> advanced and tick “Wait if other WinRAR copies are active”)
    and
    * finally the best thing is, that rarlabs offers an portable version called WinRAR Unplugged (http://www.win-rar.com/unpluggedinfo.html)
So you can take your favorite compression tool everywhere with your usb key and use it like a normal installed application with all it well known features mentioned before e.g. contextmenu.

Thanks TechPP for this great offer and hope to get a license.

    Best compression utility ever…

    I wanna win :)

  151. Ande Says:

I had a license to Winrar once before, but lost it on a system crash and re-install. It is the MOST useful program when working with any type of archive. The ability to open almost ANY archive and work with the files in the archive without extracting the files is a very FANTASTIC method of processing. It will allow the archiving of many files that would not ordinarily be archived. I haven’t used all of the archiving methods out there, but I know that RAR archives are tight and one of the best way to move large groups of files, or just one large file, over a network. If I were to ‘win’ one of the licenses, I would make sure, this time, that it would be recorded on external media (paper) so I couldn’t lose it. I would also make it my preferred (and probably once) method of archiving and looking into and extracting archives.

    Regards.

  152. Albert H Says:

I use a WinRAR trial version. (The company I work for has a license.) It is one of the best archivers I’ve seen in the market. I use WinRAR for many things. At work, I use it to archive important documents. WinRAR has a very strong cryptography, and due to that, we use WinRAR.

I also use it to package applications created (SFX) and deploy it in the network for easy installation. It is fast and easy, and doesn’t require configuration – it just works.

Another use for WinRAR is handling of any attachments people send me. Most of them are ZIP files. Under Vista, the built-in archiver is extremely slow. WinRAR has a major speed advantage.

WinRAR is also used to compress image files that some of my coworkers produce. The magnitude of the compression is just unbelievable.

The company, with WinRAR, has saved about 61-69% from the impressive compression. It really saved storage costs and more, especially bandwidth. We can allocate funds for actual work, not storage or webspace.

The only problem I’ve experienced with it is that sometimes, it would fail to create an archive with big files, causing corruption. My company usually doesn’t work with big files until the end of a project, where high quality animations and image files are exported and placed into an archive.

Although my company has a license, I don’t. I believe this is a wonderful program to have, and I would be really thankful to receive this license as a gift! :)

  153. Phoenix Says:

I will be happy if I’m able to pull my lucky ticket for WinRar. :)

  154. matt Says:

The biggest question I ask myself is why I didn’t use WinRAR sooner. It’s much easier to use than other compression software and works much better, it definitely made transporting and emailing my class mate.

it is an affordable and easy-to-use option for compressing my data! I am amazed that I was able to install and use this software on my computer within minutes! The installation files are small, easy to use

  155. Conti Says:

I use the 7zip but I would like to change to WinRAR
It’s simple, fast, does a good job, allows a notable options to be costumized and integrates neatly in the Windows interface, allowing a cascade menu.

  156. Mahek Says:

I use Winrar because its a great zip tool, Ive used it for years now, It can handle many different zip formats, which is really useful, and I still have it after all these years, and so I really wouldn’t mind getting a free copy.

  157. leanne Says:

Thanks for the chance to enter. I would really like to win winrar because it’s really easy to use for a beginner like me.

  158. Waldemar Says:

Winrar is the good example of the combination of power, details and easy to use, and both newbies and power users could feel the ease and the pleasure.

  159. Jessica Says:

I used to have the trial version of Win RAR and it is a totally awesome program that offers many options that no other program like that has. I currently use the freeware program, 7Zip like most of the readers here. But 7Zip is just a basic utility that just gets the job done with no bells or whistles. Win RAR does for zip files and rar files what jelly does for peanut butter and bread. I’d love to have a licensed Win RAR program!! Hope Santa drops one my way! Thanks!

  160. Upen Says:

Love it and have used the trial version but not able to buy it as budget very tight.

  162. thomas Says:

I like how you can make self extracting archives with all sorts of options like assign icon. It can handle all sorts of archive file types even opens .iso files. currently using 7zip would love to have a chance at a license for this.

  163. MrJohnGalt Says:

I do not currently use WinRar. My unarchiving needs are currently met by the following programs:

    1.)TugZip
    2.)7Zip
    3.)JZip
    4.)ZipGenius.

I currently have little need for the “RaRing” of archives. When I find myself in need of file compression, one of the above programs always seems to adequately fulfill my needs; therefore, I have little incentive to search elsewhere to complete such a task.

    Cordially,

  164. Darren Says:

I tested the trial version of WinRar a couple of months ago and I liked it’s compression rate though some other free tools do that job even better. What I most liked about WinRar it supports almost all archive types while the free alternatives don’t.

P.S. Don’t mind winning a license for WinRar, but even in case of my fail
in this contest I want to thank you for giving free opportunity for all those who by some different reasons can’t afford paid software.

  165. thefreestyler Says:

  167. Raven Says:

I use WinRAR because it allows me to deal with all my zipping/unzipping needs with 1 easy to use program.Does what it says on the tin ;-)

  168. pp252 Says:

I’ve been using winrar since….since…. eh, when was it? Whatever, since a long long time. For me winrar is the only compression software i will ever use. I’ve tried winzip, 7-zip, power archiver etc, but none suite’s my taste. Winrar is the only to have an archive repairer built-in the feature i really like a lot.
I hope this time I’m lucky enough to win the license because i failed to win it at Martin’s giveaway.

    Thanks.

  169. David Says:

I’d be interested in switching over from WinZip to WinRAR because over the conversion feature, which would save time. I’m impressed how it can open huge files and is fast.

  170. giglman Says:

Great! I can use it… it’s the best

  171. MyNym Says:

    Why I Use WinRar

It’s fast, reliable and has lots of great features that many people aren’t even aware of.

One of WinRar’s best features is the ability to expand or compress multiple archives simultaneously. Several years ago I needed to store lots of folders as compressed archives. There were so many I went to various software sites in search of a batch-create-archive solution. I tried several but found difficulties with each one I tried. Then to my surprise, I found that WinRar (already on my system) had that capability and worked much better than any of the other solutions. With WinRar, I can accomplish this with only a right mouse click and selecting the multiple files, or folders, I want to compress. From that day on, I have used WinRar exclusively to create rar, zip, and other compressed files.

  172. Agoston Tordai Says:

    Dear Raju!

I would like to request one license!

    The Bests,
    Ágoston

  173. Hannes Says:

Usually I use 7-Zip because I prefer open file formats, but I’d additionally need WinRAR to preview incompletely downloaded archives or to handle defect ones in general. There the built-in repair function comes into operation.

Another fascinating feature are these reconstruction archives which work like universal jigsaw pieces. No matter which archive part is damaged or missing, you just need one (or the count of missing/damaged parts) of these reconstruction archives and you can fully restore all the data. Impressive technology!

Furthermore WinRAR supports ACE, what 7-Zip doesn’t and because of licensing issues probably won’t ever do.

Finally, although 7-Zip can achieve a slightly better compression ratio (see here: http://www.maximumcompression.com/data/summary_mf.php ) WinRAR has got a more efficient compression technology (here: http://www.maximumcompression.com/data/summary_mf2.php ). But not only compression efficiency is better, WinRAR is also more efficient concerning memory consumption, so it’s appropriate also for low-end hardware.

Therefore I’d really like to win one of these 10 licenses! :)

  174. Hannes Says:

    /EDIT:
Shame on me, WinRAR is in front of 7-Zip concerning best compression ratio as well… ;)

  175. Paul Says:

I don’t use WinRAR beacause it isn’t free. I use 7-Zip, which is just as good- and it’s free and open source. I don’t see why I should spend $30.

However, I’ve tried WinRAR before and liked it. Can I have a license? It would be very useful.

    Thanks anyway!

  176. Emil Says:

    Hi!
    Merry Christmas to everyone!
Thanks for giveing us this oppirtunity.
WinRAR is one of the best archive software which exist.

One great feature it has it’s the repair funktion, there are no other
which haveing this as from what I know.
It support also most of the common filetypes.

It’s a software which should be in every personal computer’s toolbox.
By this I’d like to say yes please for being part of this contest.
    It’s a offer that I can’t refuse.
    Thanks

  177. Jon Says:

Winrar rocks! Make it to be me!

  178. Win7user Says:

    Hello
I had used Winrar, now I use 7-zip which has a very high compression rate and supports a lot of compression formats.
I knowe the latest WinRar version has been improved and is able to read Z-zip format too, that’s why I’d like to win one:-)

Thank you and good luck to all

    Merry Xmas

  179. dennis Says:

i would love to have a legit copy of winrar for once, and not the evaluation ;-)

  180. TomKing Says:

    Why WinRar ?

Well its well supported – nearly every freeware packer supports unpacking rar (squeeze from the MAC is too exotic and 7z is also not fully supported)
Its compression ratio gets better and better (from version to version) and it works great on music files. So I would love to get it and replace the freeware 7zip that I currently use (zip is a great globally systemwide compatible format but the packing ratio is not as good as rar)
I would love to win a license for WinRar, but as with the others if I again fail still my thanks for giving the chance to win such great tools in the last days.

  181. thetechmonkey Says:

I’ve been usinng WinRAR for quite some time now. It’s a great application. What I like about it is the compression, speed, splitting and the fact that it also runs like a charm in the background for those large projects.

  182. vhick Says:

    I used WinRAR because:

    1. Like English is a universal language, I find it rar files is a commonly used like zip archive.

    3. Because rar files is like a universal language in archive files, it more better in handles rar files compare to other compatible programs.

    4. Fast archiving of files.

    5. I find it easy to use. Even my niece with a little knowledge of computer use it in files, not just one but in parts!

    6. I like it in fast drag n’ drop operation in total uninstall programs when installing.

  183. dallas Says:

Currently I use IZArc to compress my files.

WinRAR is certainly one of the most popular compressing tools
Winrar is similar to Winzip but (compared to its competitor) with additional functionality
Allows to obtain a high compression ratio, higher than other programs storage
On average, the RAR format compresses the 15-30% better than the ZIP format

    It has many features including:

    Interface more intuitive and fast
    Quick and easy to learn
it’s flexible and it has opened everything
    Split Files
    Make a Self Extracting archive
    Signature verification and authentication
Recovery from physical damage to archives
    Detail View
    Explorer-like view
    etc.

The new version is distinguished by support for Windows 7 64Bit
There are also huge improvements in multi-threading in addition to full compatibility with Windows 7.

Disadvantages (in my opinion) …very few:
Compression operations (RAR) are slower than compressing the same data with other compression algorithms (for example ZIP)

I do not use Winrar because it’s a proprietary format.
While there are other compression algorithms that are not proprietary formats … (see open format such as ZIP).
In the second case, these compression formats are used by many tools (free or shareware), and then these tools are better supported (always in my opinion)

    Thanks for this opportunity

    Regards

There is plenty of free comparable archiving programs out there. I would never pay for this kind of program no matter how good it is.
The only way I would use it is if you gave it to me free.

  185. Jan Wroblewski Says:

Love to have a full version of WinZip – been using the old free versions and the alternative e.g. 7Zip, but the daddy of them all and still the best is WinZip. Great when I want to backup and save – with ancillary comment and visual files.

  186. noor Says:

i hope i get the lisence, because i very need for software is powerfull to compress any files and folders like winrar

  187. NY User Says:

i have used wrar for several years now. I find it one of the best software out there. I even like it better then WinZip. I would love a license for new version wrar that could run under Vista 64 edition.

  188. Lee Says:

I use WinRAR over Winzip, because while Winzip has faster compression/decompression rates, WinRAR:

    1.provides complete support of RAR and ZIP files, unpacks 7z, ACE, ARJ, BZ2, CAB, GZ, ISO, JAR, LZH, TAR, UUE, Z (which allows you to unpack a wide variety of files no matter where they come from), and strong compression, good archiving speed, multi-volume support, encryption, self-extracting modules, and backup facilities;

    2. consistently makes small archives through advanced compression technology and research (compared to WinZip or WinAce);

    3. saves you wasting time looking for drivers and addons that would be necessary with other compression software as WinRAR has them all pre-loaded!;

    3.guarantees that you will never have to pay for add-ons, extra features and new editions that are released – so you never have to worry about the software becoming obsolete or outdated;

    4. is also extremely user friendly and can be utilized by the computer illiterate because it has a special “Wizard” mode that makes file compression and unpacking incredibly seamless and simple to use, through a question and answer procedure;

    5. it is ompatible with Linux, PowerPC, Mac OS X, Solaris, Amiga, MorphOS, IRIX, Open Protium and x64 Linux;

    6. it obliterates the competition in the field of file compression through its advanced research, technology, standards, licenses, versatility, compatibility and ease of use that make it the must-have file compression and archiving software for today’s computer junkies;

    7. it allows extracting of multiple archives in a queue modus (reduces your CPU load), deletes archive-file(s) after extraction, deletes added files after creation of a new archive;

    8. it allows one to convert archives from ZIP to RAR and vice versa and can scan your archives for viruses before you extract the files;

    9. it automatically detecting the type of files you are compressing and adjusting the compression rate accordingly;and

    10. it has a built in virus scanner.

I would love a pro license so please put me in the draw!

  189. kvanger Says:

I love WinRar ever since I started using it so many years ago.

  190. Mynym Says:

I use WinRar because its fast, reliable, extracts all standard archive formats, and it includes a number of other very useful features.

One feature I particularly like is its ability to simultaneously compress or archive multiple files or folders, each into its own archive. A few years ago I tried to find a utility to compress multiple folders to multiple corresponding archives. I found and tried several, but each suffered various drawbacks; most were difficult to use. Then I discovered that I could accomplish this using WinRar, by choosing the appropriate default compression settings and merely using the right mouse button and selecting the folders to archive — a fast and flawless operation. That was the day I started using WinRar exclusively.

  191. Denis Says:

I use 7zip because I don’t have the money for WinRAR. But i would like to have it since using WinRAR, you’re always a Win(RAR)ner!

  192. Uly Says:

I would also be happy to win this. I sometimes receive RAR files and this would be very useful

  193. Jay Says:

Winrar was always my favorite compression program!

  194. Jay Says:

There are few reasons why i don’t endorse Winrar to my friends and family… First, it is licensed. Second, the term “archive” is very confusing. Third, navigating files inside an archive is not that friendly, im having difficulties explaining what the “..” folder means. Lastly, for windows users zip or compress does the trick so there’s no need for a licensed one.

Hope you take this constructively. this is not an attack against Winrar. rather just an observation.

  195. CLoN Says:

    Nice :D

  196. TJ Says:

I have using IZArc for a long time and would like to use WinRar

  218. Murugesan Says:

Hi, I like winrar. But I am currently not using it since it is not free.I once used a trial version. Now I use 7-zip. I like winrar for the following reasons:

    1. Winrar is made by a reputed company.

    2. Winrar is very stable when handling archives.

    3. Winrar integrates with windows explorer seamlessly and it is easy to add files just by dragging them to the archives.

    4. Rar archives offer one of the best compression results and they are also used widely.

    5. Though many applications can open rar archives only by using winrar we can create rar archives.

    6. Winrar helps to create self extracting rar archives.

    7. Using winrar we can create secure archives using AES algorithm and password protection.

    8. Winrar supports creating multi part rar archives which will be useful when transferring large files.

    9. Winrar helps to repair broken archives.

    10. Winrar is very fast in creating and extracting archives.

    11. Apart from supporting rar archives winrar also supports handling archive types like zip, 7-zip, etc.

    12. With winrar there is no need for any other archiving applications.
