Here comes the mother of all reality shows, possibly the best amongst all and definitely one of my favorites – American Idol Season 9!! For those who don’t know, American Idol is a reality competition to find new solo musical talent, created by Simon Fuller for FOX network in 2002, and has since become one of the most popular shows on American television. It is currently the #1 TV show in the Nielsen Ratings and is one of only three that have been #1 for five consecutive seasons.
The series employs a panel of judges who critique the contestants’ performances: Grammy award-winning record producer and music manager Randy Jackson and award-winning music executive and music manager Simon Cowell have been judges for the entire series. Grammy award-winning pop singer and Emmy award-winning choreographer Paula Abdul was a judge for the show’s first eight seasons. For Season 9 of American Idol, Ellen DeGeneres was confirmed to be Abdul’s replacement. The buzz is this will be Simon Cowell’s last season as the judge for AI 9 and he will move on to “The X-factor” after this season ends.
The show usually airs on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the United States and Canada. American Idol Season 9 will premiere on January 12, 2010 on Fox. Idol Gives Back will also return this season and will be held on April 21, 2010, during the top 7 results show. The season premiere will air the Boston Auditions followed by Atlanta and other cities.
