Google’s Nexus One might be coming to India very soon, but not in its US avatar. It will be a “mini” version of Nexus One which may not have all the features of Nexus One, but will certainly be lesser priced than it’s US counterpart.

This was revealed by Shailesh Rao, the Indian head of Google during an editorial meet with Ankit from CNBC-TV18. This is what Ankit had to say on Twitter

Nexus One will not come to India in its US avatar, the India specific Google Phone may be a stripped down version and priced lower!

Historically, Smart phones never had a huge market in India, but now, the Indian market is opening up for smart phones like never before. Google understands that pricing has to be right for Nexus one to succeed. Apple failed to garner any major sales with iPhones when they released the 3G version way back in 2008. Apple never released iPhone 3GS in India, majorly due to the pricing concerns.

This is a nice move from Google if they manage to get the mini version for a price of around INR 15k ($330 approx). The bigger version sells for $530 in US, which converts to INR 25k. So a drop of 10k should lighten up Indian consumers a great deal.

Would you buy a Nexus One Mini if released in India?
