iPod, iPhone, iMac and now iPad - iApple has managed to set a trend in naming their devices. No wonder the letter 'i' has become synonymous with Apple, but now, Apple has been dealt a severe blow having been told that it no longer has a monopoly on the letter "i" as part of the name for its products. dopi-ipod An Australian trademarks tribunal has rejected Apple's bid to stop a small company, manufacturing laptop bags and cases for Apple products, called DOPi from trademarking its name since Apple believed DOPi is way too similar to iPOD, Apple's popular portable music player. Apple has always been known for its over-zealous legal team plunging on any individual or company it sees as infringing on its copyright and trademarks (who turn blind eye when Apple itself crosses the line with trademarked names like iPhone and iPad). Apple argued that punters might be confused into thinking that they were buying an Apple product because of the letter 'i' in DOPi, but the tribunal said, Apple overlooked the fact that there were already a large number of products that have the "i" prefix, for example iSkin and iSoft to name just two,...
youtube-download-iphone There will surely be times when you really like a video on YouTube and like to save it on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Apple by default do not provide that feature, neither do they allow any app which can do that for you. Jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod Touch has its own advantages and increases the potential and possibilities of the device much beyond what Apple intends. The YourTube app lets you download Youtube videos directly from the native YouTube client, but then it is not Free. Well, now there is a free alternative for YourTube, called WatchMob which is available in Cydia under BigBoss and Planet iPhones repositories. This free application gets added to you springboard and allows you to search YouTube for videos and download them. The application lets you search for the videos and even lists all the previously downloaded videos neatly and allows them to be played back. Videos downloaded with WatchMob will not show up under your device’s native library, and can only be played through the application itself. [
iphone-4g-leaked The rumors about Apple releasing iPhone 4G has been making rounds for more than a year now and the latest one to join the fray is a set of pictures released on Spazio Cellulare which is an Italian forum for gadgets. The 'supposedly leaked' pictures of iPhone 4G seems to have been taken in some dodgy warehouse to make it look realistic! It is interesting to note that the box carries the name "iPhone 4G" on it. I wonder if Steve Jobs would decide upon a name as straight-forward as that! There are no specs accompanying the so called 'leaked' pictures of iPhone 4G.

Anyway, I am not complaining. All you creative souls, keep trying and keep coming out with more such amazing designs and colors for the next iPhone release. [

uTorrent is no doubt one of the most popular and widely used torrent clients in the world. With a wide variety of files available for download on torrents, one might go overboard when downloading files and actually cross the bandwidth usage limit set by the ISP. There have been instances when the ISP has temporarily banned users (even on unlimited plan) or charge extra money for downloading excessively via torrents. Luckily, the latest version of uTorrent - v2.0 has included a new feature called Transfer Cap, which helps you keep a tab on amount of data used in last 31 days. It allows you to completely stop uTorrent data transfer if cap limit is exceeded.

This is a nice addition which helps those who need to cap the bandwidth usage without having to constantly check the data transfer every other day. It is always better to set the transfer cap a bit below the limit set by the ISP so that your other browsing needs are taken care of. [via]

opera-mini-5-android

The developers at Opera seem to be working over-time these days. Just a few days back Opera 10.5 final was released and now Opera Mini 5 (beta) is made available for Android based phones. If you remember, couple of weeks back, we had reported that Opera Mini for iPhones will be coming soon, but now Opera has rolled out the beta release of Mini browser for Android phones. This comes within an year of releasing Opera Mini 4 for Android. The main change in this latest version of Opera mini is the introduction of "tabbed browsing" which has become a must-have feature for all smartphone browsers these days. In addition to the tabbed browsing, Opera Mini 5 beta has
  • Speed Dial
  • Password manager and
  • Opera Link (bookmark sync)
The default Android browser itself has most of these features, but Opera Mini 5 can still be a worthy contender considering the fact that they pipe everything through a data compression proxy before sending it to your handset, which would definitely improve your browsing speed especially when you are using 3G or GPRS.
