When Apple gave a preview of iPhone OS 4.0 a week back, the highlight amongst all the iPhone 4.0 features was Multi-Tasking. Sadly enough, Steve Jobs confirmed that some of the features including multitasking will be available only on iPhone 3GS and later versions of iPod Touch 3G, while iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G owners would not get the multitasking feature.
Interestingly, few developers noted that multitasking can still be enabled in iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G on iPhone OS 4.0 by jailbreaking the device and editing N82AP.plist file.
The reason given by Apple for not enabling multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G was the limited RAM available. The video below demonstrates multitasking on a jailbroken iPhone 3G running OS 4.0! It remains to be seen if the lower RAM availability really affects the device’s performance during multi-tasking, if so to what extent.

This REALLY works. Tested it on my iPhone 3G. You can install the 4.0 beta without the need of registration! Jailbreak, multitasking and user background is possible!!!
