The most awaited Apple’s iOS 4 update is just few hours away available now. It is a major OS upgrade from Apple with loads of exciting features like multi-tasking, Fast app switching, Local Notifications and others.

1. Update Apps – The iPhone app developers have been busy over the last few weeks in updating their apps to support iOS 4. So expect many of the apps to be updated soon. Hence make sure you upgrade all your apps as soon as the updates are available so that you can utilize those exciting features of iOS 4.0
2. Create Folders – One of the most asked-for features in iPhone all these days was the ability to create folders and add related apps onto them. Android already has this and now iPhone users can also boast about it. Simply drag one application over another to create a folder and it is named automatically. Needless to say that you can manually rename the folder to whatever you like.
3. Test Multi-Tasking – If you are like me, you would be desperate to check out how multitasking works on iOS 4! Steve Jobs had said that though they were late in bringing in this feature, they have done it the best. It is always better to check it out ourselves, isn’t it? And yeah, make sure you have upgraded all your apps before trying this out.
4. Single Inbox – These days, everyone will have multiple email IDs. With iOS 4, you can simply choose to club and stream all your mails into one inbox to avoid the hassle of switching between inboxes. You do have an option to let go this feature and have the older way of accessing your emails.
5. Jailbreakers stay away – If you have jailbroken/unlocked your iPhone or iPod touch, you must stay away from upgrading to iOS 4.0. We expect the jailbreaking tools to jailbreak iOS 4 to be released soon, so wait till then and avoid syncing your iPhone with iTunes for now.

I wanted to know that if I apply a iPod Touch 3rd Gen firmware to my iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8GB then will it work. Because I had already updated to iOS 4 when it was leaked by developers. I think it will use too much space like from 8GB the capacity would become 5GB or something like that.

To manually install iOS 4, you hold “Shift” key (“Option” key on Mac OS X) while clicking the “Update” button in the iDevice tab in iTunes. A dialog box will come up and select the iOS 4 firmware you just downloaded to start the installation.
i did that and i downloaded the link above and it shows nothing. hmmmmmm

ok i downloaded it and tried to install… now it says the update is not compatible… is there ANY way to skip this and flash the ipod touch and force it to install the 3to4 update? (just like installing mac on a pc or windows 7 on windows vista?)
I am so upset! After 4 days of trying to upgrade I finally succeed only to learn that I cannot multitask or put a background on the main page!!!!!!!! Those were the two main things that I really wanted to do!! I regret updating because stupid iTunes deleted all my music and apps including the ones I paid for!!
Ok it’s installed and happy (of course I had to reload everything back onto my phone) but I can’t put any of my apps on it. They’re all on the computer but won’t load to my phone. I’ve selected and unselected the apps multiple times and synced it many more time and it still won’t wokr. what do I do?

ok…huge question…i downloaded the iOS 4 for the 3rd gen ipod touch, but when i do the shift thing, it says it cant put the 3rd gen firmware on my 3rd gen 8gb ipod touch because it isnt compatible with the device…..so should i download the iOS 4 softare for the second gen instead?

Okay, so I clicked on the link, the “Download iOS 4 for iPod Touch 2G” one and its saved and its fine, but when I do the Shift thing, it says that there is an unknown error (3002). I looked this up and it said to click follow the normal Update/Restore process (ie, actually clicking on Update and waiting another 5hrs for its to download) but I did this with all the other previous updates (the Shift thing) and it worked fine, why is this happening now??
Because apple only approves updates to 4.0.2 now to prevent jailbreaking. If you are jailbroken already, you can have cydia save your shsh to 4.0 so you can update to 4.0 and still jailbreak.

get a program called tinny umbrella and down load it in Firefox not explore it the only way to get it in a ipsw format and when u get that error it puts the software on your phone us tinny umbrella to get it out of restore and i went from 4.1.2 to 3.1.3 with this method
