i must say Pctools firewall is one to use.No annoying pop-ups,automatic update,light on resource,simple GUI and minimum interference with other programs makes it to top.

Indeed sometimes there is conflict between firewall and Antivirus, specially when the firewall is installed over internet-security suites.

Zonealarm also have a free version firewall. When you use a firewall check its compatebility with the antivirus you are using. I had an issue like this.
