iphone-4-free-bumpers Here ends all the speculations. It is indeed "Free Bumpers Cases" for the iPhone 4 users as a solution to the "Antennagate" issue. Steve Jobs has just made the announcement at a closed door press conference at California today. If you already bought a bumper from Apple you'll get a refund, and you can also return your phone for a full refund within 30 days as long as it's unharmed. If you were expecting a direct apology from Apple, you wont get it. Steve claims you can replicate the left-handed "death grip" bar-dropping problem on the BlackBerry Bold 9700, HTC Droid Eris, and Samsung Omnia II, and that "phones aren't perfect." Steve also claims that only 0.55% of people who bought the iPhone 4 have called into AppleCare to complain about the antenna, and the phone has a 1.7% return rate at AT&T, compared to 6% with the 3GS, though he would cop to a slight increase in dropped calls over the iPhone 3GS. We have previously spoken extensively about VPN and several Free VPN options available in the market. In this article we try to explain different types of VPNs and their advantages (and disadvantages). But before we dwelve into that, a very brief introduction about VPNs.

What is a VPN?

A VPN ( or Virtual Private Network) is a way of creating a secure connection 'to' and 'from' a network or a computer. The VPN uses strong encryption and restricted, private data access which keeps the data secure from the other users of the underlying network which could often be a public network like the Internet. VPNs have been used for years, but they have become more robust only in recent years. They are more affordable and also much faster.

Types of VPN

There are many different types of VPNs available. Let's take a look at most common types.

1. PPTP VPN

This is the most common and widely used VPN protocol. They enable authorized remote users to connect to the VPN network using their existing Internet connection and then log on to the VPN using password authentication. They don't need extra hardware and the features are often available...
As expected, iOS 4.0.1 has been jailbroken within hours of its release. While the iPhone 4 and 3GS users will have to wait for a new jailbreak tool, iPhone 3G can go ahead and jailbreak their phone on iOS 4.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. Yes, it is the same Redsn0w version which was released to jailbreak iOS 4.1 beta and to jailbreak iOS 4.0. According to iPhone dev team, you must hold back from updating to iOS 4.0.1
Although you can jailbreak iOS 4.0.1, you should hold off on updating to iOS 4.0.1. In fact don’t even update to iOS 4.0.1 yet, because it’s just a small update. Apple will be releasing an iOS 4.1 download (no ETA on that) which will be a bigger update, so I recommend waiting for that.
In case you can't wait you can go ahead and update to iOS 4.0.1 only if you are using iPhone 3G.

Just a few hours after they released iOS 4.1 beta for the developers, Apple has released iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. This is a minor firmware update basically aimed at iPhone 4 users and includes the controversial patch for mobile signal to be displayed more accurately. Apple hopes claims that this firmware update will resolve all the iPhone 4 reception issues. Now, that we know that the press conference later today is related to iPhone 4, we are still left guessing on what Apple has to say.

The Zeus/Zbot banking Trojan is reported to be attacking the Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode verification systems introduced in recent years by spoofing Visa and MasterCard enrollment screen. The Zeus (also known as Zbot, PRG, Wsnpoem, Gorhax and Kneber) banking trojan is not a new one. In June 2009, security company Prevx discovered that Zeus had compromised over 74,000 FTP accounts on websites of such companies as the Bank of America, NASA, Monster, ABC, Oracle, Cisco, Amazon, and BusinessWeek. zeus-zbot-fake-screen But now, Trusteer, a security company has prepared a report which states that Zeus is aimed at customers of 15 unnamed US banks.
Exploiting a man-in-the-middle browser attack when it encounters a desired bank login on an infected PC, the malware intercepts and spoofs the enrollment process through which credit card users are signed up for the first time by both major issuers, Mastercard and Visa, throwing users a convincing screen.
Not just the credit card information, it even captures social security and card numbers, and PIN or card verification codes. An established user would not, presumably, be vulnerable unless they entered the password they created when they signed up originally. Sadly, Anti malware detection...
iphone-4-press-conference Apple has invited a handful of journalists for a press conference on July 16th, Friday to be held in California. Though they haven't revealed much about the agenda of the press meet, what we do know is it will be something about iPhone 4. So what does Apple has to say about iPhone 4 on Friday?
  • Is it about the sales figures of iPhone 4? or
  • Will they announce a price drop in iPhone 4 as they did just after the original iPhone launch? or
  • Will they discuss about the nagging issues with iPhone 4 antenna and signal reception?
Your guess is as good as mine. If you remember, Apple had publicly issued a statement that iPhone 4 reception issue is just a software bug and a firmware update is all which is needed to fix it. With iOS 4.1 beta being released today, there are reports from testers that they hardly see any improvements with the iPhone 4 signal and reception issues. It was really funny to see such a statement from the Apple PR when they tried to blame the software bug for all the hara-kiri surrounding iPhone 4. So, what do we expect in the...

ios-4.1

iOS 4.1 beta was released late last night exclusively for the developers and we even posted the guide to jailbreak iOS 4.1 with redsn0w 0.9.5 beta 5 on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (non-MC models). In case you feel you have made a mistake upgrading to iOS 4.1 beta and want to downgrade it to iOS 4.0, here is a guide to do that. But keep in mind that by downgrading iOS 4.1 to 4.0, your baseband will remain the same and your iPhone will be locked if you are not on supported carrier. Hence unlockers must stay away from iOS 4.1 until iPhone dev team comes up with iOS 4.1 unlock tools.

1. Download iOS 4.0 firmware file. 2. Connect your iPhone/iPod touch to computer 3.
