Ever since Apple iPad was declared a success, numerous tablets are making their way into this fresh market space and most of them being based on Android. The latest one to join the fray is a Samsung tablet, which was demonstrated recently by the Korean company.
Android based tablets from Samsung are supposed to be released this quarter “within 60 days” according to the sources. Samsung, the world’s No.2 handset maker after Nokia, said its tablet PC will have a 7-inch display, smaller than the 9.7-inch screen on the iPad, which has sold more than 3 million units since its April launch.
Not just Samsung, the world’s third largest handset maker, LG also plans to introduce tablets or slate devices running on Android in the fourth quarter. Surprisingly enough, no major manufacturer seems interested in bringing out a Windows 7 or Windows mobile based tablet. Microsoft though, has said it would introduce new tablets based on its Windows operating system soon to beat back advances by Apple and Google and is working with PC makers Acer Inc, Dell Inc, Toshiba Corp and others to develop the devices.
