Several sources close to Apple has claimed to Apple Insider that the new 11.6″ laptops have been in manufacture for about a week in Taiwan. According to this source, the new models will do away with existing options for a conventional hard-disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD) in favor something described as an “SSD Card” that lacks a traditional drive enclosure and more closely resembles a stick of RAM, yet isn’t easily user-replaceable.

The expected features of the new 11.6 inch Macbook Air include the new SSD card technology explained above, faster boot times and “instant-on” capabilities when waking up from sleep, just like iPhone & iPad.

According to the source, the new Air will sport an older version of Intel’s Core processor, and the spec sheet will list Nvidia’s MCP89 chipset. Apple will also show that the new MacBook Air has a longer battery life.
