Apple Announcements Galore – New Macbook Air, OS X 10.7 Lion & iLife 11

Here is a quick round up of all the announcements made at Back to the Mac event yesterday which included the launch of two brand new Macbook Air models, Facetime for Mac beta, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and iLife 11.

New Macbook Air

apple-macbook-air-11.6 Boy o boy! Our tipster was spot on with the prediction of Apple announcing a revamped Macbook Air. Even the price, specs and features were spot on! The new Macbook Air is Instant on, has great battery life, amazing standby time, solid state storage and it's thinner and lighter than ever before! For the 13.6" version, prices start at $1,299 for 128GB and $1,599 for 256GB of storage; the 11.6" version starts at $999 for 64GB & $1199 for 128GB; they're available already.

If you are like me, who is a gadget freak with multiple portable devices lying around the room at home or office, you are bound to have cables and chargers floating around everywhere. For someone like me, who works from home and who isn't organized by nature, it becomes even tougher. Moreover, my wife is a cable nazi of sorts, who is always trying to find ways to reduce the number of cables. Luckily Powermat Wireless charging system came to my rescue. You must have guessed by its name on what it does. A mat to wirelessly charge devices? Well, you are partially right. It is a mat which reduces the wires required for charging devices, but doesn't completely eliminates the cables; ironic, but true. From their website:

Samsung Galaxy Tab hits Verizon Wireless on November 11th and is (over)priced at $599. The 7 inch Android tablet arrives 2 weeks after Apple's iPad debut on Verizon for a $630 price.

Just like the iPad, Samsung Galaxy tab will be sold without contract and for a similar data plan - which starts at $20 per month, and comes with 1 GB of data. The Android tablet is expected to be sold on all four major US carriers - AT&T, T-mobile, Sprint & Verizon Wireless. Other 3 carriers are yet to announce their pricing and data plans for Galaxy tab.
