playboy-hard-drive

For all you guys out there, here is something which you might like to gift yourself this Christmas - the complete archive of Playboy Magazine on a 250-GB hard drive! Much like other publications around the world, Playboy is looking to diversify by making its mark in the digital world. Last year they launched a website to read Playboy online for free and earlier this year, they came up with an iPad app. Now, they are offering every issue of Playboy, from 1953 to 2010 on a 250-GB drive described as small enough to fit "inside a briefcase or jacket pocket." Playboy hopes this archive will increase sales and the popularity of their magazine, as both have been dwindling in recent years. From their press release,
Why would you let more than 650 of your favorite Playmates celebrate the holidays in a damp garage, stashed under your bed or crowded together in the basement, when you can bring them all together beneath the mistletoe this year?
And what about the price? Playboy hard-drive retails out for $299.95! The hard drive also has 200 GB worth of free space for those looking to save other files...

adam-price

I just can't get enough of Notion Ink Adam! This Android beauty is all set to launch before Christmas and the pre-orders are almost confirmed to begin on December 9th. Rohan Shravan, Notion Ink's CEO has been quite open in revealing the details of Adam tablet, so we did have an idea what to expect from it. Now that the specifications, features and design are made official, let us take a deeper look at why this one might just be the best iPad alternative.

Notion Ink Adam - Design

Notion Ink has designed Adam to be around 14 mm thick, while being 191 mm wide and 269 mm long. The tablet PC weighs in at 1.6 pounds, but, given its 10.1-inch touchscreen display (much like the iPad), this should not be too much for sure.

Curvy looks

adam-curve Adam features a free-form design which defines its own bold curve. The curve helps you get a grip that's evenly weight distributed and ergonomic. No matter which side you look at it, the curve is an advantage over the standard tablet, as its...

unlock-ios-4.2.1-ultrasn0w Just as we had expected, the iPhone dev team has released the Ultrasn0w 1.2 tool to unlock the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware on iPhone 3GS and 3G on basebands later than 05.13.04. The trick is to flash iPhone 3G/3GS with 06.15 baseband from iPad 3.2.2 update. Note that iPhone 4 is not unlockable yet since it has a different baseband OS. It is important to repeat the risks involved with unlocking iOS 4.2.1 using Ultrasn0w 1.2 - Once you unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS, you can never go back from 06.15 baseband. Warranty would be void and the baseband version won’t be hidden from Apple. - If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway). - Starting with FW 4.2.1 iPhone 3G with 06.15 baseband, you won’t be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). Restore using custom IPSWs to retain your unlocks. Before unlocking you need to jailbreak iPhone 3GS/3G on iOS 4.2.1 using PwnageTool 4.1.3 or RedSn0w 0.9.6b5. The procedure to...
The iPhone dev team have released Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for Mac & Windows which lets you to flash iPad baseband 06.15.00 on iPhone 3G & iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1.2 or iOS 4.1 stuck at 05.15.04 & 05.14.04 baseband. This is very similar to PwnageTool 4.1.3, but works on both Mac and Windows.

redsn0w-0.9.6b5

But the good news is that, unlike PwnageTool 4.1.3, iPad 3.2.2 firmware is not required for redsn0w 0.9.6b5 as it fetches iPad iOS 3.2.2 right from Apple servers. You just need to have stock firmware for iOS 4.2.1 for respective devices.

Download RedSn0w 0.9.6b5

Note that if you are using RedSn0w on Windows, you would need to run in Windows XP compatibility mode on Vista & Windows 7. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for Windows. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6b5 for Mac OS X.
If you do flash your baseband via redsn0w, please keep it plugged into USB the whole time. You don’t want your battery to die during the flash process!

Risks involved

  • There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
  • If some future baseband comes out...
pwnagetool-4.1.3 The iPhone Dev team have released a special edition PwnageTool (v4.1.3) which can update the baseband of iPhone 3GS & 3G to 06.15.00 so that they can be unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2 on the latest iOS 4.2.1 (or iOS 4.1) firmware. As you might already know, basebands 05.14.xx and 05.15.xx are currently unlockable and hence this update becomes necessary.

Risks involved

Please read and understand the following risks involved before proceeding with the update.
  • There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.
  • If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).
  • Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).
Now if you still want to proceed with the baseband update, follow...

RIM is taking on Apple in a big way, or at-least they are trying. The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will be undercutting Apple's iPad by $100 according to some unconfirmed reports. Before we discuss the Playbook pricing in detail, have a look at this:
  • 8GB PlayBook: $399
  • 16GB PlayBook: $499
  • 32GB PlayBook: $599
playbook-price Now, these were the expected prices anyway. Playbook has a smaller screen compared to iPad, it doesn't come with 3G and Wireless broadband access. One needs to rely on tethered BlackBerry or Wifi hotspot for the internet access. But then none of the decent iPad alternatives have managed to undercut iPad's pricing as yet. So a hurrah to RIM, if the rumors are indeed true. Having seen the Playbook vs iPad browser test video, it is clear that RIM is hell bent on challenging Apple on its own turf, but they have a huge task at hand to come up with a decent multi-touch tablet, especially after the disastrous attempt with BB Torch. More rumors: RIM Playbook shall be available in the Indian market, soon, at a price of Rs 20,000 for the 16GB variant and around Rs 28,000 for the 64GB version. A dub-20k pricing...
