First ever worthy news coming out of CES 2011 – LG has announced the world’s thinnest smartphone – LG Optimus Black which is Android Froyo based and just around 9.2mm at its thickest end and 6mm as it tapers down.

LG Optimus Black features a 4-inch NOVA display which reduces power consumption by 50% when used indoors, and will ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) with the view to an Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade.

Looks like LG has made up its mind to vigorously use (and abuse) the “optimus” brand just like Samsung is doing with “Galaxy”.
