Location Sharing Servies Map

Location Sharing Services like Foursquare, Gowalla, Google Places, Facebook Places have popped up in the past couple of years to make is easy for your friends & followers to know your whereabouts. These services have gained their fair share of popularity but they are still far away to make it mainstream. There are certain factors which still needs to be work upon to main it big.

5 Weak Points of Location Sharing Services:

1. Not Automatic

Every time a user has to check-in, he/she has to manually pop-up the app to initiate the check-in. This makes it hard for users to be motivated to bother for check-in's, the novelty soon worn off. No one is interested in being the mayor of his/her local dog park. There isn’t single app that provides automatic check-in. Apps should enable “background location check-ins” so end users doesn’t need to do anything when entering a place, users can continuously share the their location with friends or followers.

ad-block Guest post by Lior. As controversial as ad blocking is, there’s no doubt that it is popular. Adblock is the most popular Chrome extension as of this writing, with more than double the users of its nearest extension. Millions of surfers are at least installing ad blocking applications and, though many sites complain about the practice, it is clearly a trend that is here to stay. As a web publisher, this is not something we personally like to suggest, since many publishers and bloggers depend upon such ads for their livelihood. But if you do decide to download an ad blocker, there are many to choose from and ones for nearly every browser and operating system. With that in mind, here are ten of the more popular ad blocking applications out there and what they can do for you. Note from the editor: If you love our blog, check this - Why Ad Blocking is devastating to the sites you love

google-deception Guest post by anonymous “Don’t be evil” says Google, information and services should be free. People should watch videos for free. We’ll make a free browser, free operating system, free picture viewer, free search free free free stuff. (applause) – How about free Google Ads? Google is a great company and I love it. It's just that there are some things that tick me off with their holier than thou – We are good guys and Microsoft are bad guys approach. I’ve been thinking about it for months and I still can find an answer maybe someone would enlighten me after reading this.

Should Microsoft make its operating system Open Source?

A lot of people would say yes, make it open source let people dig in and do WHAT? Create apps? Tweak things? If I’m not mistaken, I believe that’s what an API is for right? Microsoft has released an API for its operating system for ages. Check this.

If you think Google removing H.264 support from Chrome to silly, how about this? Removing JPEG support from Chrome. Google had this to say in a post on the official Chromium blog, which was eventually removed.
We expect even more rapid innovation in the web image format platform in the coming year and are focusing our investments in those technologies that are developed and licensed based on open web principles. To that end, we are changing Chrome’s HTML5 <img> support to make it consistent with the formats already supported by the open Chromium project. Specifically, we are supporting the PNG and SVG image formats, and will consider adding support for other high-quality open formats in the future. Though JPEG views an important role in images, as our goal is to enable open innovation, support for the format will be removed and our resources directed towards completely open format technologies that we like better.
Some Good Samaritan cared enough to save the post over here. Make sure you read it completely.

Ever since we wrote about the top Groupon alternatives in India, a lot of things have conspired in quite a quick time. Groupon has made an official entry to Indian markets, through their acquisition of SoSasta.com, a Groupon clone which didn't even make it to our list! But wait, we now got to know that Ebay India has decided to take a plunge into the sea of Group buying web services with its own variant.

ebay-social-shopping

They are giving themselves a different name - Ebay Social Shopping which, like Groupon, is about Daily Deals aimed at group buyers. Currently, Ebay India is promoting their social shopping site http://kuponanindia.ebaysocialapps.com/ on their homepage as well. As of now it looks like Mumbai and Delhi are the only cities, but expect that list to grow very soon. As Plugged.in notes, ebay is testing similar services in Philippines and other places as well. As with other group buying services, the deals get active only if eBay Social Shopping can generate more than the specified minimum number of sales chosen by the merchant. Once the minimum number of sales is reached, the deal becomes activated (called the...
