Android 2.4 - 'Ice Cream' is just around the corner. Merely few days after confirming Android 2.3 Gingerbread and demoing Android 3.0 Honeycomb, there are talks of Android 2.4 getting ready for release pretty soon.
Nomenclature
Code named as Ice-Cream, this Android release is expected to hit sometime this summer, possibly in June-July of 2011. Google's fetish about alphabetical desserts has always left little for people to guess the code name of the next OS iteration. Donut, Eclair, GingerBread, HoneyComb and now Ice Cream!
Update: It's now called
Ice cream Sandwich, yeah, whatever!
With Honeycomb being officially declared as Android 3.0, many were assuming Ice-cream to be named as Android 3.1 or 3.5 or 4.0. But not to be, as it looks like Google wants Ice cream to be Android 2.4.
Android 2.4 - Features?
We don't have concrete information on what Ice-cream release will be about, but the versioning implies that it will be more focused on the phone experience rather on tablets. Gingerbread was more about UI refinements, so Ice cream might have refinements with respect to the back end.
