vlingo Guest Post by Namit Gupta Operating mobile phones with voice instruction is not a new concept. Voice recognition technology has been around for a long time now. Several phones out there have the feature to accept general instructions in voice. But none of them can be as effective and accurate as Vlingo. Vlingo is a popular free mobile phone application. It intelligently listens to what you say and does accordingly. Its speech to text technology is fast and very accurate. You can use various voice commands to instruct the app to perform different tasks. Using Vlingo, you could give instructions with your voice commands to call any person either from your mobile phone book or even by dictating the mobile number, dictate and send text messages, update status on Facebook and Twitter, open other applications, send emails, search Google, find/call local businesses, book hotels, movies, restaurants and much more. Following are some examples of Voice Commands you could use with Vlingo: Connect with friends and family... “Where are my friends?” “Update Facebook status; Headed to New York for the weekend!” “Call Mom” “Text Laura; Want to see a movie tonight?” “Email John; Subject, Running Late; Message,...
Facebook is a social phenomenon. This social network appeared when it already seemed that the market was agglomerated and there wasn't room for yet another one. But, in the end, Zuckerberg managed to create a team that was capable of giving shape to his imagination of how the company should be. And his ideas were quite brilliant. In 7 years and a bit, the membership grew to 600+ million users. At this moment Facebook rightly holds the second place of the most visited websites in the world. How many users will we see after 10 years? This happened in a week of March 2010 (HitWise Data), when Facebook surpassed the mammoth corporation and became the most visited website in USA. internet-speed-cost A few months back, we had seen a detailed infographic from Pingdom about the average internet speed across the globe. That data was based upon the information provided by Akamai, the world’s largest CDN provider. Now, Dando vueltas a lo de siempre has come out with a similar infographic based upon the data sourced from Internet World Stats Broadband Penetration, which lists out the average broadband speed and costs of Top 20 nations. The infographic lets users in these 20 countries know and compare their broadband speed and cost with their peers across the globe. If you’re a US citizen you likely have an average internet access speed of 4.8 mbps and you pay a little over $3 per mbps. If you are in Japan, you are likely to have a whopping net connection of 61mbps costing just about 27 cents per mbps (*evil*) I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight after going through these figures. Here in India, I pay $31 for 4mbps with a download limit of 20GB :| [via]

one-more-thing-apple

Apple and Steve Jobs have made the "One more thing..." a phrase of their own! Though the great man might not be able to make it, due to his health problems, Tim Cook (or whoever giving the keynote) should be using the "One more thing..." phrase at the iPad 2 event scheduled for March 2 and that one more thing is expected to be a preview of iOS 5. With the amount of secrecy practiced by Apple, each and every news leaking out must be classified as a rumor and that's the case with iOS 5 preview as well. Though iPad 2 would be the talking point for most of us, plans and previews for iOS 5 will be as important and interesting. As we have seen in MWC 2011, most of the new tablets (Android & Blackberry) score high on hardware and performance, but goes weak with the operating system. With Android's Honeycomb, it has become even more important for Apple, to get a notch ahead with their next major iteration - iOS 5.

motorola-atrix

We are quickly transforming from "Home Sapiens" to “Homo Technologicus”, having all sorts of tech devices to ease our life or just to make us feel more comfortable by accessing the information we want whenever we want it. The irony is that we are basically buying the same components, over and over again. They are just shaped in a different way or branded by a bigger/smaller name. Why do we still need a GPS navigator, when it can be incorporated as an application in a tablet or powerful smartphone? Why do we use the tablets, when we already have the smartphones? These are the questions that aren't easy to answer. Motorola has come up with a pretty interesting idea, which may even seem awkward at first - they’ve created a smartphone to function as the “heart” of a laptop. Motorola Atrix is the name of this unusual device and it can be bought in USA for 200$ (AT&T plan). It has a very powerful processor and uses Android as operating system. The laptop is created to be the companion for the phone; it has no processor and own storage. It relies completely on the...
You would wonder how much more accessible Facebook could be, and you wouldn’t have to look far for answers. Taiwanese company HTC has unveiled two social networking phone models, which helps you access Facebook by hitting the "F" logo. This was achieved after spending two years on developing the phones. You might ask what is new about Facebook on the phone, but with the single shining button sharing photos, music, mood and your exact location is literally on the tip of your finger; Facebook is nothing less, than your kinda world !! The trendsetting touch world of the iPhones is challenged by this newest entrant, which targets the teenage market. Philip Blair, Product Director at HTC Europe believes that, "We are really trying to for the young and mass market. We will try to be as aggressive as we can". These two phones are brilliantly named "ChaCha" and "Salsa". Salsa is a touchscreen only phone with a 3.4 inch screen. ChaCha has a 2.6 inch touch screen with a separate keyboard, which looks a lot like a Blackberry. HTC’s phones are Android based, with user interfaces similar to Droid Incredible and Evo 4G....
Discussions around HTC’s possible release of a tablet started in the second half of 2010. We had to wait until February 2011, at the World Mobile Congress when the Taiwanese company finally announced the nice looking tablet, named HTC Flyer. It features a 7 inch screen, Android and a totally rebuild HTC Sense.

It wouldn’t be fair to compare the first tablet from HTC to Samsung Galaxy Tab II, given the fact that, obviously, Samsung had the chance to fix possible errors from the first edition and to improve; and, nonetheless, the display and the range are seemingly different. Also, not to mention that we have a difference of more than six months between these two; with the rate at which the gadget tech is evolving and high competition, time is a huge deciding factor.
