searchreviews There is no dearth of Product review websites and aggregators on the internet. Services like Google Places, TestFreaks, Retrevo and Buzzilions have been around for a long time now. The latest entrant, SearchReviews promises to be the real search engine for product reviews with more than 40 million reviews of 4 million products, indexed from 1000+ retailers like eBay, Walmart, Amazon and others.

Where SearchReviews is Different?

The basic approach of SearchReviews is similar to other product review aggregators. It crawls and indexes thousands of reliable websites for review content and stores them in their searchable database. Where it differs from its competition is in the mix of review content. Ranging from shoes to electronics and restaurants to travel, it has everything you would think of. What's even more interesting about SearchReviews are the mobile apps available for both iPhone and Android. Both iPhone and Android apps are integrated with the bar code scanner from RedLaser. When you are in Walmart or BestBuy and not sure how good a particular product is, just take out your smartphone, open SearchReviews app and scan the barcode of the product to get hundreds and thousands of...
facebook-photos The improvements in broadband internet, coupled with the explosion of social networking websites has resulted in a big change when it comes to the way we share photos with our peers and family. You might know that, with more than 600 million registered users, Facebook has become one of the most valued properties on the web. What you might not know is that more than 60 billion photos were shared on Facebook in 2010 and the estimate for summer 2011 is a whopping 100 billion! The closest competitors - Photobucket (at 8 billion), Picasa (at 7 billion) and Flickr (at 5 billion) come not even close to Facebook. All these stats are based on the study by Pixable who took a sample data of 100,000 Pixable Photofeed users. You can question the accuracy, but not the trend. The study also shares some interesting facts-
  • New year's eve weekend is the most popular time for sharing photos on Facebook. More than 750 million photos were posted then.
  • Photo uploads peak on weekends and it's lowest on Wednesdays.
  • Women do twice as much photo sharing as men
Check out the infographic below for more such interesting facts

There has been a lot of debate regarding high amount of spam search results on Google over the past few weeks, including the content farms and otherwise, so much so that Google even launched a Chrome extension to let users block certain sites from appearing on their personalized search results. But the main issue of content scrapers, aggregators and proxy websites ranking higher than the original sites still exists. The issue of indexing the proxy sites which simply redirects the URL of the original page through their servers is nothing new. The issue dates back to 2007 and with the introduction of canonical tag in 2009, Google announced that the issue came to an end. But that doesn't seem to be the case. The proxy hijacking is back and for some mysterious reason, it appears to be prevalent on the proxy sites hosted on Google's very own app engine, by ignoring the "rel=canonical" tag. Let me explain with an example. Over the past couple of days, I have been observing a considerable drop in organic traffic for some important keywords. Today, I pushed myself to dig deep and check what's wrong. I was shocked to see...

iphone-nano

Internet is abuzz with rumors about a brand new version of iPhone from Apple, expected to be released soon. Possibly named as iPhone Nano, it is expected to be much smaller, way cheaper and more futuristic than any other smartphone in the market. According to WSJ, the lower priced iPhone Nano will be sold alongside the pricey iPhone 4 and would be about half the size of the iPhone 4. Codenamed as N97, it is expected to be released on all carriers at about half the price of iPhone 4. Apple currently sells iPhones to carriers for $625 each on average. With carrier subsidies, consumers can buy iPhones for as little as $199 with a two-year contract. Also making the rounds, is the revamped MobileMe service which would allow users to store most of their data and media in the cloud. This is expected to be released in June 2011. What's interesting to note here is that the smaller iPhone (Nano) will be devoid of all the storage memory! This will ensure that Apple can aggressively price the iPhone nano and compete with the lower priced Android phones in the mass market. According to
Having been a blogger since a long time and wanting to successfully continue being a blogger, one of my major blogging objectives has been to increase traffic to my blog, or my online writings. There does exist several strategies that help bloggers in increasing traffic to their blogs, but most of the tips are not as effective in a world now, considering the fact that there are millions of bloggers online. Here are 10 ways that are not highly publicized which will help enhance the number of visitors to your web page. The best way to do so is not to use all of them at once, or one after the other. The trick lies in using a set of two or three tips, and stick to them religiously thus helping you pull of an efficient blogging career. 1. Secret Blogging Groups - A very under used and under-rated trick is to ensure that you are part of a small and secret blogging club. This club or group must belong to the same genre of blogging that you are part of. The funda is to join a group which has not more than 50 members, share...

Almost 45 days into 2011; We, the Tech Enthusiats & Practitioners can very well guess what's going to be the trend in technology, this year. For any business venture to outperform others by a distant in this year, the crown technology must have, in other words, the Trendsetters would be - Cloud Consumption, Virtualization and Mobility. Let us know a bit more about the 'Top 3 Trends !! 1. Cloud Consumption - The cloud processing phenomenon is both, an evolution of technology, and a revolution in the consumption model. Organizations should spend atleast 30 percent more on public IT cloud services, with one third of midsize US firms embracing cloud resources, according to IDC. However, at the same time, non-business-related websites now consume up to 15 percent of available corporate bandwidth, and this figure is deemed to be rising sharply. Cloud Computing is valuable, as it is diverse. It keeps track of a homogeneous group of users using the same (in-house) data center thereby improving cost efficiency. Cloud computing servers help manage virtual and physical servers, thus creating a reliable system even from redundant components. One problem with cloud consumption is the restricted on-ground bandwidth to use the cloud from WAN....
steve-jobs-stanford I'm one of those blokes who starts yawning even before some dignitary starts his/her speech. But not when the dignitary's name is Steven Paul Jobs. I stumbled upon this Youtube video of an awe-inspiring graduation commencement speech given by Jobs at Stanford way back in 2005. The length of the speech is about 14 minutes, but am sure most of you won't realize that once you click the play button. In short, Jobs' speech is about three stories of his life. The first story is about connecting the dots. The second one is about love and loss. And the third is about death. As you might have guessed, the speech is a combination of experience, philosophy and spirituality, with a careful mix of humor, enough to keep you interested all the while. Now that Steve is on a self-imposed medical leave, I thought of sharing it as a mark of respect to this great man. If you are reading this on your RSS reader, you might have to visit the blog by clicking on the title. Here is the complete transcript of the speech...
