screencast

Showing your wares off was never as easy as it has been made by Screencasting. A screencast is a movie of your computer screen that is habitually used to demonstrate how specific features of a software are used. Showing people your product will boost its popularity into people’s memory and catch their attention. It is like test driving a car or tasting your favorite sweets before buying them. Here are five tools that will put the spotlight on your product and make screencasting easier - 1. GoView - Making a screencast is one step, next comes editing it appropriately to appeal the market and target audience. GoView provides some innovative editing techniques, like cutting out video/audio portions and adding title pages. Saved videos are uploaded at the GoView site and links are provided for easy sharing. Since this software is in its early stages of conception, it is free while the product is in public beta, but that also means that it is only available on Windows XP and Vista.

In the last few weeks, Google has taken various steps to counter spam in its search result. From modifying its algorithm to bringing up a new extension for Chrome, Google is leaving no stone unturned. Continuing their pursuit further, Google has added yet another feature to its search page. Keeping in mind that not everyone uses Chrome, the extension feature has now been extended to work with any browser, as it is now a part of search page. Google will now have a link as "Block all from test.com" beneath every search result. Once this link is clicked, a confirmation message shows up, thereby maintaining a list of blocked search results for each user. One can manage this list by clicking 'Manage Blocked Sites' under 'Settings'. According to Google, the sole purpose of this feature is to ensure that we get optimal and customized search results, in turn making the whole searching experience 'enjoyable'. Also Google has made it clear that these blocking/customization by users will not be used as a parameter for page ranking for now, but they might consider it as a signal in future. The new feature...

Apple announced the faster, lighter and better iPad 2 early last week and it is bound to hit the retail stores starting 5pm on Friday, March 11th 2011. As you can expect, the iPad 2 reviews have started to pour in and I had a busy time scanning them for those intrinsic details and opinions. As you might know, I have always believed iPad to be the best tablet available (my iPad 1 review) for various reasons, specifically for superior form factor and availability of 65,000+ apps specifically designed for the iPad. When Apple launched iPad in India back in January this year, I was sure that iPad 2 is round the corner and hence sold off my iPad 1 in anticipation of a getting an even better iPad 2. How much better is iPad 2 as compared to iPad 1? Let us check it out.

Difference between iPad 2 and iPad 1

  • 15% lighter than the original iPad
  • 33% thinner than the original iPad
  • 1GHz dual-core Apple A5 for the iPad2, as compared to 1 GHz Apple A4 in iPad 1
  • Front and rear facing cameras
  • Better RAM in iPad 2
  • Gyroscope...

pwn2own-2011

On the day one of Pwn2Own, a hacking contest as part of CanSecWest security conference, three web browsers were put to test. Apple Safari, Microsoft IE8 and Google Chrome. The first browser to be tested was Safari 5.0.3 running on fully-patched Mac OS X 10.6.6. The objective for the hackers was to make these browsers run some arbitrary set of code and also perform actions escaping sandbox. A French security company VUPEN , was the first one to bag a Mac, as they cracked a 64-bit Safari which performed a disk read-write operation even though it was sandboxed, within 5 secs of visiting the exploit website. This hack was not due to Webkit, the rendering engine in both Safari and Chrome. The details of the hack won't be available till the Apple is able to release a patch which fixes this security hole. Also its apt to mention here that Apple had released a security patch ahead of competition fixing at most 60 security holes. Next in the line was 32 bit IE 8 running on 64 bit Windows 7 system. It was beaten by security researcher Stephen Fewer of...

Team Villain from XDA have launched custom ROM for HTC Vision and HTC Desire Z. Custom ROM called SenseGinger, has Sense UI running over Android 2.3 Gingerbread. According to the developers, this custom ROM is a merge of the Huashan leak and the Wildfire S leak. Before trying this custom ROM you are required to know about some of the known issues:
  • Camcorder hangs when pressing record
  • Bluetooth does not work
  • HTC Hub fails to log in
  • The "card" mail widget does not work
  • Landscape mode in Sense is bugged (thanks to HTC for this), I would advice against using this too often
  • Question mark doesn't work on hardware keyboard
For those interested in giving this ROM a try can follow the instructions laid out at XDA developers forum. The first bug fix is already out for download and a final release can be expected soon...
