lenovo-tobii In the age of touch, it’s time to welcome 'sight'. It’s time to put our hands to rest and let our eyes do the talking, the typing, the moving, the reading, and everything else. All this thanks to the eye tracking technology embedded in the newest Lenovo laptop. The world’s fourth largest manufacturer of PCs, Lenovo, has partnered with Swedish startup Tobii Technology to create the world’s first eye controlled laptop. The archetype was on display at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany, last week. This laptop assists users in reading, scrolling up and down on a page, select, and zoom on a particular point, with the help of eye movements. It is not a bid to replace the mouse and keyboard, but to assist them and make working on a laptop friendlier and relaxing. Henrik Eskilsson, CEO of Tobii announced, "More than anything else, the Tobii laptop prototype is proof that our eye-tracking technology is mature enough to be used in standard computer interfaces. To reach a state where the technology is part of the average computer,...
windows-1.0 This can be nostalgic to many geeks who have been using Microsoft's Windows operating system for a long time now. Andrew Tait must be appreciated for taking pain to install every version of Windows OS from 1.0 to 7 inside a VMWare instance, and thereby giving us an overview of how Windows has changed over the years. And all that in just 9 minutes! For someone who started off with Windows 95, getting to see DOS 5.0 and Windows 1.0 was a treat. The whole procedure took 3 days for Andrew to complete. It is interesting to see how DOS versions of Doom 2 and Monkey Island still works on Windows 7 after all these years! This fascinating experiment shows how much effort Microsoft puts into ensuring legacy compatibility. It's not all about BSOD you see! [via]
“10 years ago a browser was born”, that’s the slogan that we see on The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown page. This is Microsoft’s initiative to educate and make online browsing a safer place. They go on by saying “It's name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2011, in an era of modern web standards, it’s time to say goodbye. This website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web.” The oldie browser was release on August 27th, 2001, a few months before the release of Windows XP. Since then, it has been replaced by newer versions of Internet Explorer, but it still holds a big share of the browsing market – around 12%. This means that there are around 250 million IE6 users, which is a really big number. The biggest share is in China – 34.5% and South Korea – 25%. From July 2009, YouTube stopped officially supporting IE6 and starting with February 2010, Google, the biggest online venture, announced that it also ceased...
Guest Post by Ishan. Google Chrome has been constantly gaining market share in browser war, and this has prompted more and more developers to create extensions for Google Chrome. As a result, there are some really interesting Google Chrome extensions available. Here are 3 Chrome extensions that help you manage your Wordpress blogs .

Wordpress Stats Extension

Wordpress Stats Wordpress Stats is one of my favorite extension for Google Chrome. This extension shows you number of visitors to your blog at any point of time. You can see the visitor count all the time on the icon of this extension. And when you click on the extension itself, you can see more details, like, Popular Posts, Referrers, Search Terms, and Clicks. Wordpress Stats extension works only if you are using Wordpress Stats plugin on your website. It pulls your stats directly from Wordpress.com using your API key (see here). This plugin is easy to use, and makes it very easy to monitor traffic on your website, without continuously checking your Wordpress stats page.

google-world Guest post by Daniel Divyakumar H, of The Indian Geek. A few months ago, Technically Personal received an anonymous “Guest post” titled The Google Deception. Since Raju mentioned that he had received an “anonymous” post on twitter, and that it didn’t look like spam - my curiosity was piqued. Who in their right minds would write an entire article for a decent blog such as TechPP, and then not want to affix their name to it? When I read the article, I kind of understood. It reads more like the half-demented lazy thoughts of a scatterbrained non-geek. So I set out to right the wrong, and debunk every thought or rhetoric posted in the article. Instead, I ended up looking at the main issue - what is Google’s game, and how are they planning to achieve it? I believe that Google plans to take over the world. I firmly believe it. I also believe that they are not evil. If they really do end up “taking over the world”, then they will definitely fall prey to corruption and other vices which would make them evil. But currently, no, Google isn’t...
