The much awaited WWDC event is round the corner and the rumor mill has begun to churn out expected announcements during the mega event. Apple is expected to announce iOS 5 during the WWDC 2011, which will possibly be running the next iteration of iPhone (iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S?)
According to TechCrunch, Apple will be unveiling a completely revamped notification system and widgets in iOS 5. We have put together the most expected features of iOS 5 for your benefit.
iOS 5 – Revamped Notification System
The iOS notification system has been one of the more highly criticized aspects of the platform and is clearly due for a revamp. Android has shown, how a good notification system looks like and Apple has no option but to completely overhaul their existing system. Some people were expecting the new system when iOS 4 was launched last year, but not to be. There is no clear indications on how the new Notifications system looks like, but anything other than the current “Pop-up” boxes is a welcome change.
iOS 5 Widgets
The widgets functionality is yet another new and welcome addition for the iOS devices. Again, the details are scarce, but MacRumors thinks that iOS widgets could “presumably provide quick access to information without the need for launching dedicated apps, much the same as Dashboard widgets in Mac OS X.”
The video below illustrates the concept in greater detail.
There have been unconfirmed reports of Apple being in talks with Nuance, the speech recognition company behind the Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine, over incorporating Nuance’s technology fully baked into iOS 5. Though surprisingly, may not make its way into the Voice Control component of the platform.
So these are just some of the most expected features in iOS 5. Expect the article to be updated as and when we find more details.
