track-kids Parents constantly fret about the safety of their children, be it when the kids are online or away from home. With their busy lifestyle, parents are not able to keep a close eye on the activities of their kids who are prone to various kinds of threats and harassment from different sections of the society. So how can parents ensure the safety of their children? There is a very thin line between monitoring and spying. Though the intention of a parent who likes to keep his/her child safe cannot be questioned, the approach adopted might make a huge difference. Everyone appreciates privacy, and that includes children. Considering that, spying on kids is not a wise option at all. But then, in this age of social networking and high tech gadgets, children can't be left unmonitored just like that. So how best can one keep a tab on the child without actually losing his/her trust? This is what I'll try to address in this article.

Monitor and Protect Kids Online

Internet has become an integral part of our lives. No wonder that the kids these days are getting more and more web savvy and...
These days, it seems that consumer technology is going more and more mobile, as we see powerful smartphones renewing at more faster cycles, not to mention the revolutionary tablet market which seems to conquer more and more fields of human activity. Wherever we go, we can carry our electronic buddies with us, thus we are always in the middle of information and society. But, with great diversity and versatility in mobile technology, comes even bigger responsibility. Steadily, but surely, our smartphones and tablets  are developing into universal devices, replacing more and more gadgets that were once used to have a solitary purpose. It quite scares me to see that soon enough, our financial information will also be handled by our mobile phones. Google has already released the Google Wallet application and we expect Apple do endow iPhone 5 or its successor with NFC. That's why, when your mobile phone plays such an important role in your life, you have to be sure about its security and the safeness of your data inside. We did some research and found 10 mobile antiviruses that should protect your mobile phone, be it an...

kindle-fire

Amazon has unveiled the much awaited Android based tablet - the Kindle Fire which might not fire up the tablet market as many were expecting. Well, the price (at $199) might be a killer, considering that we hardly have any decent quality Android tablets at sub-$200 range. But then, not everything is hunky dory with this new device. The tablet looks tiny at just 7 inches and runs on a forked out version of Android, and doesn't look anything like Android really. Amazon has completely revamped the user interface and has closely tied the device with its content library, which includes the Amazon app store with more than 10,000 applications.

Kindle Fire Specs - Depressing

The Kindle Fire comes with Wi-Fi and a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime, which normally costs $79 per year with additional benefits of free two-day shipping and access to Amazon’s video-streaming service. It's not clear what's the version of Android that Amazon has forked out, but some reports say that it's actually the age old Android 2.1 Eclair! It does support thousands of apps from the Android app store in addition to it's own App store. The list of feature it lacks seem...

firefox-vs-chrome

We have witnessed endless debate on the web regarding which browser performs the best. Firefox, Chrome and Opera have provided much needed options for the end users who are fed up of Internet Explorer and Safari browsers. Though IE still holds a big share of web browser market, Mozilla's Firefox and Google's Chrome have managed to consistently strengthen their foothold over the past few years. In the recent past, companies have used different Javascript benchmarking tools to show how their browser is the fastest amongst the competition. Off late the speed of browsing has gained tremendous importance and somewhere most of us had started to forget other important features like memory footprint and security. If we go by the general perceptions, Google Chrome is considered to be the fastest browser. Some believe that the reason for Chrome's speed is it's lower memory footprint, which is more of a myth than a fact, as we found out during our tests in real world scenario.

Chrome 14 vs Firefox 7 - Memory Footprint

Every time a new version of these browsers is released, the companies and independent agencies/blogs will publish a comparison based on...
iphone5-event The rumor about Apple holding a media event on October 4th is indeed true. Apple has just started to send out media invites which says "Let's talk about iPhone" which is a clear indication that the event will be about iPhone and we are now almost certain about iPhone 5 release on Tuesday, October 4th 2011. Surprisingly, this iPhone 5 event will be held within the Apple campus at Cupertino, unlike before where they used to have it at Yerba Buena Center for Arts Theater in San Francisco. This is possibly because Apple had expanded their current campus at Cupertino recently. If you carefully observe the invite, the calendar icon indicates the date (4th October) of the event, while the clock indicates the start time (10am PST), the maps icon shows the place and then the phone icon might possibly be linked with the tagline "Let's talk iPhone" which might be referring to the iPhone Assistant feature, which should blow off our minds! There are some rumors about two models of iPhone being announced on October 4th - an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S. It does make sense that Apple...
Wake up! Unless you are living in a cave, you should be knowing about the super fast release cycles of Mozilla Firefox. Within 40 days of releasing the final version of Firefox 6, Mozilla has made available the final version of Firefox 7 with host of improvements and hardly any new features.

firefox-7

Mozilla recently adopted the Google Chrome's way of super fast release cycles with lesser number of beta builds in between. But unlike Chrome, Firefox doesn't get updated automatically. Firefox 7 had just six beta builds and the final version will be officially announced later today. Right now, impatient souls like me can go ahead and download Firefox 7 from their FTP servers (links below).

Firefox 7 Features

As with Firefox 6, Mozilla is aiming to improve the browser experience rather than playing with the user interface. In Firefox 7, major work has been done to ensure that the memory consumption of the browser is optimized and reduced a great deal. Mozilla claims that they have managed to make it 20-30% better than the previous versions.
Googles_13th_Birthday-2011 The most popular and the biggest brand on the internet has just turned a teen! Google is now Thirteen and is no more a kid down the block. The search web giant is celebrating its birthday with a sweet doodle showing 13 candles and 3 caps! What those three caps refer to? Umm... Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Eric Schmidt? Well, that doesn't matter. But what matters is that Google has continued to follow the custom of having a doodle on its birthday every year. There has been some confusion with the birthday in the past, as the domain Google.com was registered on September 4th, while the company has celebrated birthday on September 7th a couple of times at least in the past. It's a nice occasion for us to remember the impact Google has had on us over the past decade or so and how it has managed to change the world wide web since then. "Google" has almost become a synonym for "web search" and there is hardly anything on the web which doesn't have Google's footprint. It will be interesting to see Google's approach in the coming year. Having...
timeline-privacy Kudos to Mark Zuckerberg for yet another achievement with Open Graph. It brings so much to table. It adds a whole new dimension to Facebook and makes it an even richer ecosystem. But, coming to the most important revelation of F8 conference 'Facebook Timeline', which has impressed many, including many here at Technically Personal, but I can only say that it scares the shit out of me. Note: Facebook Timeline is available for developers only right now. It will be rolling out for everyone from 29th Sep onwards. Before I blurt out my nightmare, I would like to point out that I am no privacy pundit. I don't mind sharing posts in public, and I don't believe Facebook is some evil lord who will take my data and make my life hell. Since this is clear now, let me start with a simple scenario. What if you are applying for a job in a company? HRs now-a-days also consider your social network profile. They decide your personality based on the posts you share on these sites. Don't you think Facebook Timeline just made their life a hell lot easier. Instead of...
