Breaking News folks! Apple has just announced an iPad 3 event for March 7th 2012, Wednesday, at 10am in the morning, much as we had expected. As always, the venue is Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.

The announcement comes right at the time when Google’s Eric Schmidt is giving a keynote at MWC 2012. CNBC had tweeted earlier today that Apple iPad event is scheduled for March 7th in New York, which had taken many (including me) by surprise as Apple had never announced any new iPad model in New York. As it turns out, the venue is San Fransisco as always.

In a true Apple style, the invite just says:

We have something you really have to see. And touch.

and it shows someone pointing to the calendar app on an iPad with the date reading Wednesday 7th!

Not that Apple leaks out the major aspects like the product design through their invites, but we love to believe that the image shows a retina display (*wink*) as most of the iPad 3 rumors have been suggesting. But then, we aren’t sure about anything, not even the name (iPad 3 / iPad 2S).

In any case, this will be an interesting event considering the fact that this will be the first major Apple event after the death of Steve Jobs, who in fact had personally unveiled the iPad 2 last year, which was sadly his last ever keynote.
