After a wild CES 2013 event, the rumors, hearsay and speculation is back on. If Samsung didn’t impress you enough with the products and services they launched, then maybe the latest back-fence talk will make you turn your eyes towards the Korean behemoth. Yes, we’re talking about yet another little wonder of technology that might soon land on the market, “begging” you to buy it.

Galaxy Note 8.0 seems to be the name of this possibly upcoming slate from the company residing in Samsung Town. If this is a rumor, why are we treating it seriously, someone could say. Well, for a number of reasons, but problably the biggest of them is the following.

Samsung’s fierce battle with Apple

I am not a fan of Apple, nor am I a fan of Samsung and frankly, I think it’s pretty dangerous these days to be loyal to a certain company, when there are soooo many products being launched, day and night. But I really like the battle between them, I love to see how they try to engage in technology blitzkreigs and how they’re always upgrading their weapons. That’s why, this isn’t only a rumor, but this is once more, an obvious evidence that Samsung has threw down the gauntlet in the face of Apple.

And this hearsay comes from SamMobile, a website which is pretty honest with its readers and where most of rumors have at least a bit of truth in them. So, this is another important reason to think that this speculation will convert into reality pretty soon. And we will be there to confirm it – at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

iPhone’s supremacy is coming to an end, we can all feel that, especially after Samsung has announced incredible sales numbers for the Samsung Galaxy S3 – 40 million at the beginning of January, 2013. But what’s even more important is that Samsung managed to sell more than 100 million units from its Galaxy series in less than 3 years. It’s not as much as the iPhone, of course, but Samsung isn’t winning the fight against Apple alone, other Android brother are helping, such as newcomer Huawei, for example.

Wait, but what all this has to do with Galaxy Note, right? Well, it’s all part of a bigger plan, folks. Samsung is on a quest, or so it would seem to me, to counter-attack the Cupertino company on as many boundaries as possible. The Galaxy S series is there to fight the mighty iPhone, the 10 incher Galaxy Note is to try and pose a threat to the iPad (no serious harm done) and the Galaxy Note 8.0 is obviously aimed at the neck of iPad Mini.

But why that name?

Why would Samsung want to call it Galaxy Note 8.0 and note Galaxy Tab 8, since that would be its closest relative in the huge Galaxy family, right? Well, they know what they’re doing – Note is a much more successful brand than Tab ever was. So, when you want to fight against the iPad Mini, the love of kids from all over the world, you need to name it accordingly. And so they did. If they’d name it Galaxy Tab 8, everybody had then recalled the Galaxy Tab 7 or 10 which, honestly, is almost a failed product, only that nobody talks about it. But hey, Samsung can afford to to experiments, right? They’ve got so many lab mice. But people love the Galaxy Note, the first and the second so Samsung is going to take benefit from that, mark my words.

And the specs are…

Leaving poetry aside, many of you (me included) are interested in the specifications that Galaxy Note 8.0 could have. It is the third member in the Note family and is rumored for a release at the 2013 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. There will be 2 versions: a Wi-Fi and a 3G one (let’s hope it will also come with 4G). It has the Kona codename and the following, probably internal, identifications – GT-N5100 and GT-N5110. Without further ado, here’s everything we know about it so far, in terms of specs:

  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 4600 mAh battery
  • 211.3×136.3×7.95 mm , 330 g
  • 8.0”, 1280×800 TFT (Super Clear LCD)
  • GSM networks: EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) HSPA+21.1Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps (850/900/1900/2100)
  • Camera 5 Megapixel (BACK)
  • Camera 1.3 megapixel (FRONT)
  • RAM + Storage: 2GB (RAM) + 16/32GB (optional) + microSD (up to 32GB)
  • Connections: BT 4.0, USB 2.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, A-GPS

And if the price will be right, this new tablet size might make some of us choose is instead of other smaller or bigger slates. Amaze us, Sammy.

samsung galaxy note 8.0

Update:

Just like I’ve previously assumed, this was a rumor that had all the odds to become reality. “Caught” by Engadget and discovered by a Japanese website, it seems that Galaxy Note 8.0 has been official confirmed by a high-ranking Samsung executive tobe showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Apparently, it could also come with a 1.6 Ghz quad-core Exynos processor. We can’t wait to get our hands on this babe!

Is this the Galaxy Note 8.0?

The Galaxy Note 8.0 proves to be a very hot gadget these days and we’ve got more details about it. We now know that it will also come with the S Pen, if the rumors become true. Besides this, we have some fresh images from Dday, which seems to have gotten images of the Galaxy Note 8.0. Judge for yourself.
