Micromax, the Indian mobile phone giant is on a roll. After the successful run with Canvas 2 A110 smartphone, they have announced a brand new phablet, Canvas HD A116, which packs a lot of power and beauty for an unbelievable price.


The new flagship device features a 5-inch HD IPS display with 1280×720 resolution, 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a meager 2100mAh battery. It is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589 processor and runs on the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Micromax announced this new phablet at a press conference in New Delhi, and confirmed that Canvas HD will go on sale in the first week of February 2013 for a price lesser than Rs.15000 (~USD 275). The actual pricing and release date for Canvas HD A116 will be announced soon.

Micromax also claimed that they had imported 198.1k phablet devices to India in the last quarter, while Samsung had imported 189.9k and others had 38.2k during the same period, thus becoming the biggest player in phablet space in India. Micromax also plans to release almost 30 smartphones in 2013.
