Paying a few dollars for a mobile app is not too much, but many of us are not yet used to spending money like that. So, maybe this nice treat is meant for those of you that still think everything should be free on the Internet. For the first time ever, Rovio has made free the original Angry Birds game – offer available for iOS users (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch). The Android version is already free, but it has advertisements inside that ensure Rovio they still make a few bucks.
The free version for iOS won’t have ads at all, which is another advantage to this price reduction. To make the deal even more sweet and to appeal even to those that played the game entirely, Rovio has added 15 new levels to the game. Angry Birds has been the most downloaded game in the history, since its appearance in December, 2009. The company hasn’t made the information official yet, as we discovered this through AppsFire.
Get the original Angry Birds for free on iOS!
Rovio has probably made the original Angry Birds free in order to increase downloads, as Ingrid with TechCrunch rightfully observes. And the timing is right for the Angry Birds maker, because it’s the first time since May 2010 when it doesn’t find itself in the top 80 highest grossing iPhone apps. As successful as the Angry Birds game is, there comes a moment when the life cycle ends. And perhaps we’re nearing that very date. So, why not make the most of it and increase your visibility as a company across consumers?
You should expect Angry Birds to claim this week a title that has been so many times attributed to them – the App of the Week in the App Store. On iOS, Rovio might not make that much money, but they still have in-app purchases, so there’s still a financial opportunity for them. And if you think the original Angry Birds is piece of cake to you, then you should also try the latest, Angry Birds Star Wars.
You should also know that not only the 1 dollar game has been discounted to zero, but also the HD versions of the game, which cost $2.99. Also, don’t forget, if the bad piggies are all over you, you can call the Mighty Eagle!
