While SSDs are blazing fast compared to regular Hard Drives, they do need maintenance to ensure they operate at full speed. Also, by providing regular maintenance, you ensure that your SSD will have a longer life, while not compromising performance. Tweak-SSD is a great program that is simple to use and it allows you to do maintenance on your computer’s SSD.

SSDs do read and write operations constantly, and this is the factor that determines how long they work. After a number of such operations, they will start losing their speed and eventually, they will break. However, there a lot of SSD optimization tricks that you can implement to keep your drive healthy for a long time.

Tweak-SSD – What makes it stand out

While other optimization programs need a lot of configuring before you can optimize SSD, Tweak-SSD makes short work of that, by giving you only the options you need. There are no complex configurations and hard to understand options. Also, one other feature that helps the user better configure their SSD is that each options is explained, so you know exactly what it does and how it impacts your drive.

For the purpose of our review, we used the free version of the program, which can be downloaded from the official website. Keep in mind that this version only provides general optimization and TRIM support is disabled. If you want the full version, you can get it for only $9.99, which is a pretty sweat deal considering that it helps your SSD perform better and live longer. For a free download, you will have to input your email address, and they will immediately send you an email with the download link.

Furthermore, instead of a huge list of options for users to check, the entire optimization wizard is designed to have 7 steps, each with 2 options and explanations to what they mean. In addition, if you don’t want to bother to read what they say, you have the option to use the recommended settings at each step.

The entire process of optimizing your SSD with Twak-SSD takes a less than 5 minutes. After you are finished, you are prompted to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. When you boot up your computer, you will see a improvement in how the systems works and in the boot time also.

Tweak-SSD can also optimize your drive’s TRIM support, which for those of you who don’t know what that is, this feature cleans individual sectors of leftover data before new data is added to them. Tweak-SSD cleans multiple sectors so next time your drive will write in that location, it won’t need to take time and clean it before. The user interface of Tweak-SSD is very simple, having a main window from where you can launch the optimization wizard or the other features that it provides. Also here, you have a scale that measures the level of optimization of your drive. Also, Tweak-SSD is compatible with both Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems.

General Impressions of Tweak-SSD

While we were testing this program on a Kingston SV300S37A60G 60 GB SSD, we were surprised that the entire wizard only took around 3 minutes to complete and after a reboot of the system, we were left with a noticeable improvement in both boot-up speed as well as overall system functioning. Also, after the process was completed, we had a cool 2 GB of more free space on the drive. Overall, we were very pleased with Tweak-SSD, and we recommend it to anyone who wants to optimize their SSD drive.

I often wonder, where is technology heading? What do all of these advances mean for us and for our future? I sometimes miss the days when I didn’t know how to use a floppy disk, or how a computer CPU works, but now, until I find an answer to my questions, I’ll keep tracking these advances and show everything I find to those who share my interests.
