Another week and another Galaxy S4 variant. Just a week after unveiling the rugged version of their 2013 flagship, Galaxy S4 Active, Samsung has announced the Galaxy S4 Zoom with a 16 megapixel CMOS sensor and 10x optical zoom lens, with the powerful Xenon flash added to the mix.
Those looking at the Galaxy S4 Zoom for the first time might actually think it’s a photoshop trick, where some prankster has combined Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Camera to troll the interwebs. On the contrary, it’s one of the many spinoffs from the Korean giant.
Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom has a 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) Super Amoled display, 1.5GHz dual-core Exynos processor, 1.5GB RAM and 2,330mAh removable battery, runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and supports LTE. None of these are close to the original Galaxy S4 specs, but still Samsung has decided to rub the luck and branding of their latest flagship to this Camera phone.
As you’d expect, the phone is big and heavy. At 208 grams and 15.4mm thickness, it’s nearly double the weight and thickness of the original Galaxy S4. It comes with a 1.9MP shooter in the front for video calls. It carries just 8GB of internal storage with 5GB of it available out of the box, but comes with a microSD slot expandable upto 64GB.
Samsung GALAXY S4 zoom uses Corning’s new Gorilla Glass 3 with Native Damage Resistance. This cover glass enables improved damage and scratch resistance and reduced scratch visibility. In comparison to Galaxy Camera, the wide end is down from F.2.8 to F/3.1, while the max telephoto is down from F/5.9 to F/6.3. Check out the gallery for more pictures.
As always, there are no details about the pricing, availability or carrier partners for Galaxy S4 Zoom, but as per some rumors, it is scheduled to launch in Russia in July at a cost of 19,990 rubles, or around $618 by conversion.
