Apple has announced today the newest product in the long line of iPads: the second generation of the iPad Mini. The device has been discussed for a while all over technology forums and blogs, and it has seen its share of leaked specs and speculations. Nevertheless, all of these guesses have now been set aside, for now we have the official specs of the new iPad Mini.

From their event, at the Yerba Buena Center, Apple has announced today their revamped iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display, two devices that Apple fans were very excited about. The iPad Mini was rumoured to come with a major performance upgrade, as well as with a Retina Display and a fingerprint scanner, much like the iPhone 5S.

Although the  rumours where not far off, we were able to learn more about the iPad Mini’s specs. It seems that Apple is quickly adopting their new processor, the A7, which will be installed in both the iPad Air and the iPad Mini with Retina Display. If you’re into technical stuff, then these must interest you much more than the look of the device. So, here they are:

  • CPU: Apple 64-bit  A7 Processor
  • Display: 7.9 inch Retina Display with 2048 x 1536 resolution and 326 ppi
  • Cameras: Back 5 MP iSight with 1080p recording and front 1.2 MP FaceTime HD with 720p recording
  • Storage: 16GB / 32GB / 64GB / 128 GB
  • Connectivity: MiMo WiFi 802.11n Antennas, LTE, Cellular, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Battery: 10 hours of battery life
  • Operating System: iOS 7


The specs look good overall, and they definitely make it stand out from the crowd. The main competition for the iPad Mini is the 2013 version of the Nexus 7, but also there are other tablets that have risen lately, like Lenovo’s Miix 2 which runs Windows 8.1, or the newly announced, lower spec Nokia Lumia 1320.

Price and Availability

Now that you know what the new iPad Mini will have under its hood, you’re probably thinking when it will hit the market so you take up a seat and wait to get your hands on one. The device will be available in November, and keeping to Apple tradition, the prices will start at $399 for the 16GB  model, $499 for the 32 GB variant, $599 for 64 GB and the biggest of all is $$699. However, for those who want WiFi and Cellular iPad Mini with Retina Display, the prices are as follows: $529 / $629 / $729 / $829 for each different storage version.

Potential customers will also have two colors to choose from: silver and space grey and they can pick them up from the Apple stores or from other retailers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon or Sprint Also, keep a close watch on Apple’s devices website, where they will soon have all their new products listed.
