All those in India waiting to get your hands on the new iterations of iPad and iPad mini can rejoice. Apple is said to launch the new iPad Air and the new iPad mini with retina display in India in just a couple of weeks from now. NDTV reports that the launch date is most probably 29th of this month, but that might change due to supply constraints in other regions.
Both the iPad Air and iPad mini were announced three weeks back in San Fransisco, with iPad Air going on sale in select launch countries early this month, while iPad mini went on sale only yesterday. Much like the Indian launch of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, which happened just a few weeks after the global launch, Apple is bringing the tablets as well to India within a month of global launch.
iPad Mini Pricing in India
As for the pricing, people were expecting the tablets to be launched at higher price range owing to weak rupee, and that’s exactly what Apple is doing. The 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad mini with Retina display will be launched for a price of Rs.28,900 (~$450), while the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB versions will be priced at Rs.35,900, Rs.42,900 and Rs.49,900 respectively.
The 16GB iPad mini with Retina display and cellular connectivity will be priced at Rs.37,900 (~$600), while the 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models will be priced at Rs.44,900, Rs.51,900 and Rs.58,900 respectively.
The original iPad mini (without retina display) will continue to sell for Rs.21,900 (~$340) for the Wi-Fi version, the same price as of date. However, the 3G version might get a price bump to Rs.30,900.
iPad Air Pricing in India
The bigger iPad Air too will be seeing a price bump owing to weak rupee. The 16GB Wi-Fi only iPad Air will launch with a price tag of Rs.35,900 (~$565). The 32GB, 64GB and 128GB Wi-Fi only models will be priced at Rs.42,900, Rs.49,900 and Rs.56,900 respectively. The 16GB iPad Air with cellular connectivity will be priced at Rs.44,900 (~$700). The 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models will be priced at Rs.51,900, Rs.58,900 and Rs.65,900 respectively.
The older iPad 2 (16GB) will continue to sell at Rs.28,900 (~$455) for the WiFi only version, and Rs.37,900 (~$600) for cellular version. That’s a sad news for those who were hoping to pick up the older iPad 2 and iPad mini at a discounted price as is the norm with Apple products, but this time the weak rupee is playing the spoilsport.
