ROCKI is new wireless music system currently in the crowdfunding stage on Kickstarter that aims to aims to transforms almost any speaker into a WiFi-enabled one. Any speaker that has an RCA or a 3.5mm cable can be given WiFi “powers” thanks to the Rocki WiFi dongle that attaches to it and can be controlled with a Android, iOS and HTML5 app for all other phones, computers and Macs.
Thus, as long as there is a WiFi network available, you can play music from your device, to the ROCKI music system and thus to your sound system. wirelessly. The ROCKI app can pull all of the music from your device, home network through DLNA and UPnP, or even online streaming services, so you could be listening to radio, as well. The team says the following on their Kicstarter page:
The idea to develop ROCKI started in February 2013: We were frustrated with those awful sounding little Bluetooth speakers – cheap, low quality, and what a hassle to pair them each and every time. The problem seems to be that Bluetooth was never designed for enjoying music. Why can’t we simply have wireless music everywhere, in every room at home?
Now, you don’t have to worry about whether your speaker has built-in Bluetooth support, or AirPlay support as ROCKI solves that problem in a clever and simple way. It will work with older speaker systems, yes, even with that portable cassette tape radio, which is really awesome. Imagine hearing the latest hits through such a old device.
It comes with multi-user support, so you can be sure nobody will be messing around with your music collection. Also, you can enable all your speakers in your home, provided you have acquired a ROCKING dongle for each one of them. Here are the music formats spported by the dongle: MP3, FLAC, WAV, AIFF. Rocki WiFi Music System has a nice, toy-ish like design and is available in the following colors: ROCKI Green, Paint It Black, Submarine Yellow, Hot Chilli Peppers Red, Pink Punk Pink and Deep Purple.
The WiFi dongle has a 3.5mm Stereo (Audio) and a MicroUSB (Power/Charging) connector and comes with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm Audio Cable, 3.5mm to RCA Audio Cable, USB Charging Cable, USB Charger in the box. The battery has a capacity of 900mAH but right now we don’t know specific details into how many hours that translates.
The cheapest ROCKI dongle is US$45, but after early birds orders will be completed, it will get back to the the usual price of US$49. You can buy three and get a discount even after early birds are over, as they will set you back US$135.
