Gionee, the Chinese smartphone major is betting big with its Indian operations. The company has launched its latest flagship, the Gionee Elife E7 in India, just weeks after the China launch. The Elife E7 boasts of some impressive specs and attractive design, while keeping the price a lot more affordable.
Gionee Elife E7 features the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory and 2,500mAh battery. The 5.5″ 1080p (Full HD) screen is equipped with Gorilla Glass 3 and is super-sensitive touchscreen responsive to gloves and wet hands. Interestingly, the 32GB version of Elife E7 comes with 3GB of RAM.
Gionee is trying hard to make a mark in the camera department as well. The Elife E7 comes with a 16MP rear camera with 1.34 μm pixel sensor and an 8MP front camera. The camera app has some neat tricks as well, with modes like automatic, portrait, micro, night, night portrait, backlight and backlight portrait.
The Chinese company has really huge global plans. In fact, Gionee aims to be a top-5 smartphone brand in the world by 2015 and the top most smartphone brand in India in the next couple of years. It’s impressive that Gionee managed to pack in the Snapdragon 800 CPU on Elife E7 at this price range. Talking about the price, the 16GB of Elife E7 is priced at Rs.26,999, while the 32GB version is priced at Rs.29,999.
Though the price looks attractive for the hardware and features the phone comes with, it’s tough for Gionee to come out of “just another cheap Chinese brand” image. They are clearly investing big in R&D, as well as marketing, but would be a daunting task to convince customers to go buy an Elife E7, specially when they have an option to buy something like the Nexus 5 running the latest Android OS (unlike 4.2 Jelly Bean on Elife E7) at similar price range.
The Elife E7 does look good from the outset and we shall be taking a deeper look at it when we get our hands on it.
