The HTC One has been a great hit among consumers, many saying that it was actually better than the iconic iPhone when it was released. That’s why the crowd is anxious to see how the HTC One 2 – or however the next-generation will be called – will look like. But it seems that we’ll have to wait until March 25 to learn more about that. Nonetheless, HTC did have a press conference at the Mobile World Congress where it has revealed the HTC Desire 816.

Technical specifications and features for the HTC Desire 816

The HTC Desire 816 is touted as the “flagship mid-range” device, but you will have to agree with me that it’s a pretty weird collocation. Nonetheless, the device is pretty interesting, as it packs a 5.5-inch HD display, comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor and is wrapped in glossy plastic, which some could say is resembling of the Apple iPhone 5C.

  • 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 5.5 inch 720p display
  • 1.5 GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD expansion card support up to 64GB
  • Bluetooth 4 with aptX and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi
  • 13 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front facing camera
  • 2600 mAh battery (non-removable)
  • Dimensions of 156.6 x 78.7 x 7.99 mm and 165 grams
  • HTC BoomSound front-facing speakers
  • Accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor
  • GPS + GLONASS, digital compass

Provided that we’re talking about a middle-range device here, we have to agree that it’s a pretty good device. However, it will be interesting to see with what price it gets launched, because there are already cheap smartphones, like the ZTE Grand Memo II which come with some appealing features. The HTC Desire 816 will be launched in China starting in March and made available globally starting in April.

Technical specifications and features for the HTC Desire 610

Albeit not announced at the official press event, HTC also unveiled the Desire 610, also a mid-range smartphone, with slightly dumbed-down specs than the Desire 816. However, it follows the same design language and choices of colors like its bigger brother. Here are its detailed specs:

  • 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 4.7 inch qHD display
  • 1 GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD expansion card support up to 64GB
  • Bluetooth 4 with aptX and 802.11 b/g/n WiFi
  • 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 1.3 megapixel front facing camera
  • 2040 mAh battery
  • Dimensions of 143.1 x 70.5 x 9.6 mm and 143.5 grams

Albeit coming with poorer specs, it has enough features to transform it into a reliable entertainment hub – BlinkFeed for the latest news, Video Highlights tfor photos and videos, HTC’s own BoomSound audio technology for music and some more. It will work with 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE, and will be aimed at Europe first, being released in May.
