Albeit we knew quite a lot about this smartphone, the LG G3 has now officially launched and it joins the league of top-notch smartphones currently available, responsibly building up on the legacy of the LG G2. As expected, most of its previously leaked features have now been officially confirmed, but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, since these are specs that doesn’t put the device to shame. Let’s have a look:
Tech specs of the LG G3
- 5.5 inches resolution Quad HD (2560 X 1440)
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with 2.46 GHz Quad-Core Processor
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB of internal storage, expandable up to 2TB with external memory MicroSD
- Android 4.4 (KitKat)
- Weight: 149g
- 3,000mAh removable battery, wireless charging
- 13-MP back camera with Laser Auto Focus and Optical Image Stabilization and 2.1MP front one
- LTE, 802.11ac wireless, Bluetooth 4.0 LE
There are actually two models getting launched: one in 16GB ROM and 2GB ROM flavor and a higher specced one with 32GB internal storage and 3GB of RAM. Sadly, the smartphone isn’t waterproof and it’s made of polycarbonate with a special layer on top that gives it a finish close to metal, which is kind of a slick move by LG.
The LG G3 comes with superior sound quality thanks to improved microphones that measure the environment to identify the optimal audio level for the clearest recording. There’s also a built-in 1W speaker with Boost AMP, which means your music and videos will sound much louder, yet clearer in the same time.
The LG G3 comes with a 5.5 inch display, slightly bigger than the 5.2 inch size of the LG G2. And for those wondering, Quad HD is four times the resolution of your usual HD display, which means an impressive, highly accurate and crisp screen. The smartphone comes with thin bezels on all sides, which makes for almost 77 percent of the device’s footprint to be occupied by its 5.5-inch display. The 2560 X 1440 resolution translates into a impressive pixel density of 538ppi.
The laser autofocus is a first of its kind on smartphones and it’s perhaps the fastest autofocus currently available on phones, so if you are looking for this feature on your next smartphone, then LG G3 might be your next choice. The 13-MP front camera also comes with optical image stabilization and there’s a 2.1 MP front one for video calls, as well. It also comes with 20% improvement in camera shake stabilization.
Also, for those of you who love to take selfies, it comes with a special feature which takes a photo when you just raise your hand in the air. The 2.1MP front camera comes with several new enhancements such as a larger image sensor and larger aperture for more light.
The LG G3 is running a customized version of Android KitKat, along with some special features:
- Smart Keyboard
Adaptive technology learns as you type for faster input with less mistakes. Smart Keyboard reduces input errors by up to 75 percent by tracking and analyzing typing habits and intuitively “knowing” what word the user intended to type. The height of the keyboard can also be adjusted to better fit the user’s hands and position of the thumbs. Individual keys can also be customized with frequently used symbols for even faster input.
- Smart Notice
Like a personal assistant, Smart Notice provides suggestions and recommendations based on user behavior, phone usage patterns and location to offer user information when it’s needed the most. Smart Notice can remind you of a call you declined earlier and ask if you would like to call that person back. If you have a large number of un used files or apps on the G3 taking up valuable space, Smart Notice will ask if you would like to delete or uninstall them. But what sets Smart Notice apart from other personal assistants is its natural language capabilities. For example, instead of just displaying today’s temperature and weather forecast, Smart Notice will make a recommendation such as, “You may want to take an umbrella today since it will rain this evening.”
- Smart Security
Knock Code enables users to unlock their device with a pattern of taps. Merging security and convenience, users can create a personalized code that can be entered anywhere on the screen. Content Lock keeps personal files safe and hidden from view when sharing the G3 with friends. When the G3 is connected to a PC, Content Lock prevents file previews so the data is still safe. Kill Switch gives G3 owners the ability to disable their phones remotely in the event of theft. The Kill Switch also allows content on the G3 to be wiped so personal information won’t be compromised.
