Xiaomi has kickstarted its Indian operations by launching multiple devices. Along with the Xiaomi Mi3, the Chinese company is launching the much economical Redmi 1S which is a dual SIM smartphone with mid-range hardware specifications for Rs.6,999, and takes on the likes of Motorola’s Moto E, Micromax Unite 2 and Asus ZenFone 4. Along with the Redmi 1S, the Redmi Note has been launched at Rs.9,999.


The Redmi 1S carries a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core chipset clocked at 1.6GHz and 1GB of RAM along with 8GB of internal storage. It comes with a microSD slot capable of extending the storage up to 64GB. The phone runs on Android 4.3 JB with MIUI skin on top of it. It has a 2000mAh battery powering the 4.7-inch 720p display. As for the camera, it comes with an 8MP shooter on the rear along with 1.6MP on the front.

The Redmi Note on the other hand features a 5.5 inch 720 pixel IPS display, a 1.7 GHz MediaTek MT6592 octa-core processor, 1.7GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, microSD card, 3MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and a 3100mAh battery. All that, and it runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with Xiaomi’s MIUI layer on top. As the name suggests, it’s clearly marketed like a phablet, but lacks a stylus like the Galaxy Note series from Samsung.

At Rs.6999, Xiaomi Redmi 1S looks really good, same goes with Redmi Note at Rs.9999. We still need to give them a hands-on treatment, so stay tuned for more info. And yeah, Flipkart will be the exclusive partner for Xiaomi in India. That means, all their phones will be sold exclusively online and that too only on Flipkart to start with. Xiaomi hasn’t announced the exact date for the launch, but said they will be coming soon.
