Sony was among the first companies to announce its products at IFA 2014, as it renewed its Xperia Z3 line-up with two new smartphone models and a new tablet, none of which should excite people. So, let’s have a look at what these new products come with and see what new features they offer.

Sony Z3

  • 5.2-inch Android phone with an aluminum frame and tempered glass
  • 1080p LCD
  • 2.5-GHz Snapdragon 801 SoC
  • 3GB of RAM

  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • IP65/68 dust/waterproof rating

As you can see the new Xperia Z3 is hardly an upgrade to the existing Xperia Z2 smartphone which comes with the same Snapdragon 801 processor but clocked at 2.3GHz. Sony has added a new wide-angle 25mm lens and extra-high ISO 12,800 light sensitivity. There’s some changes to the design as the phone now carries an aluminum rim. This should have been called Xperia Z2S, rather than Z3!

Sony Z3 Compact

  • 4.6-inch, 720p device
  • 2.5-GHz Snapdragon 801 SoC
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Plastic frame instead of the aluminum one
  • Smaller, lower resolution screen
  • Weighs in at 129 grams and 8.6mm thick
  • Will launch in black, white, orange, and green

Sony Z3 Tablet Compact

  • 8-inch with a 1920×1200 display
  • 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801
  • 3GB of RAM
  • 16GB of storage with MicroSD slot
  • 8MP camera
  • 4500mAh battery, LTE
  • Stainless steel corners and tempered glass
  • Weighs 270 grams
  • IP65/68 rating

According to Sony, the Xperia Z3 will be released in Black, White, Green and Copper colour options, while Xperia Z3 Compact will arrive in Orange, Green, Black and White colors. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will however only be released in White and Black. There is no word on pricing for any of these devices.
