Call it the Xiaomi effect or anything. Lenovo has launched its latest flagship Android smartphone, the Vibe Z2 Pro at an astonishing price of Rs.32,999 (~$540) in India, and will be sold exclusively on, starting October 6th. The phone was announced back in June this year in China, and is amongst the first ones to come with a Quad-HD (2K) display. It follows Oppo’s Find 7, LG G3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to flaunt a Quad HD display, and interestingly, it’s the cheapest of them all.

Other than the display, the Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 (8974AC) processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Also, it comes with a 32GB internal storage, but sadly there’s no microSD expansion slot. The phone is running Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS with Lenovo’s own skin on top of it.

The rear camera is a 16-MegaPixel shooter with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and the front facing camera is a 5-MegaPixel snapper. Connectivity options include BlueTooth 4.0, NFC and LTE capabilities. It also supports Dual-SIM standby feature. At 7.7mm it isn’t exactly the thinnest smartphone we have seen, but considering it’s housing a whopping 4,000mAh battery, we say it’s pretty impressive.

Lenovo K920 Specifications

  • 6-inch Quad HD IPS display (2560 x 1440 pixels)
  • 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU
  • 3GB RAM, 32GB of internal memory
  • Android 4.4 (KitKat)
  • Dual SIM
  • 16MP autofocus camera with dual LED Flash, OIS
  • 5MP front-facing camera
  • 7.7mm thick
  • 4G LTE / 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth with A2DP, aGPS

Interestingly, if users don’t like Lenovo’s custom UI, they will be able to switch to stock Android by just click of a button. We are not sure how Lenovo is doing this, but assume they have multiple partitions on the phone.

At Rs.32,999, Lenovo is extremely aggressive with the pricing for Vibe Z2 Pro (aka Lenovo K920). If we remember correctly, the company had priced the K900 similarly a couple of years back. Like the K900, the K 920 comes with an all metal body with curved edges. 4,000mAh battery is also the best we have seen in a flagship smartphone. Considering it needs to power a 6-inch Quad-HD display, a 2.5GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM, that might just end up being sufficient. We shall find out soon in our review.
