Update: OnePlus has launched One at Rs.21,999 (~$360) for 64GB. Brilliant pricing we should say. As expected, OnePlus isn’t bringing the 16GB variant to India as of now. Around 20,000 units will be on sale in the initial rollout.

Earlier: Much like we had reported last Saturday, OnePlus One is indeed launching soon in India and will be sold exclusively on Amazon.in. And we now have a date for the launch. The much hyped up smartphone is launching on December 2nd at a gala event in New Delhi where the prices will be revealed.

The OnePlus One was launched globally in April this year, and has since sold in a handful of countries like Belgium, Austria, Canada, Belgium, France, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, U.K and the USA. India will be the first market where OnePlus is partnering with a local partner and also the first market outside of HK to have a dedicated team as well.

India Specific Invites

As we had reported earlier, buying a OnePlus One phone won’t be an easy task. The company has introduced India specific invite system. Users interested in purchasing an unit will need to apply for an invite which will enable them to purchase on December 2nd. Starting today, interested users can log onto Amazon.in page or oneplus.net/in and register their interest for an invite. Those who’re lucky enough to get an invite will be able to make the purchase from Amazon.in on December 2.

It’s a contest based invite system which will entitle you to win one of the 1000 invites which will go out before December 2. The catch here is OnePlus hasn’t yet announced the pricing details, but we expect it to be priced less than Rs.25,000 for the 64GB version. That’s right, we expect to see only the 64GB model to start with just as Carl Pei had indicated to us few months back. [Update: More proof. Amazon page mentions only about ‘Sandstone Black’]

OnePlus looks very bullish on the fast growing Indian smartphone market.

To provide the best possible user experience, OnePlus India will have a physical presence, the first outside of their headquarters, with a local team led by General Manager of OnePlus India, Vikas Agarwal. This will be the first region in which a localized service infrastructure is established, offering phone and walk-in support to users around the country.

If you’re living under a rock or something, and don’t know much about the OnePlus One, it’s a beautifully designed smartphone that boasts of some impressive hardware specifications and runs Android 4.4 KitKat based Cyanogen OS. The 16GB version of the OnePlus One retails for $299 with the 64GB variant costing only $349. The smartphone boasts of a 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p) display from JDI and is powered by the latest Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor from Qualcomm, clocked at 2.5GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. It comes with a 3GB LPDDR3 RAM, eMMC 5.0 interface with 16GB or 64GB of storage space, a 13MP shooter on the rear and 5MP snapper on the front.

Of course we will be in Delhi on December 2nd, so watch out for any additional details that will help you in deciding if this phone is for you. We’ve been using this phone for the past 4 months and if you have any questions, you can comment below and we will be happy to answer them for you.
