In the middle of this past summer, Xiaomi has announced the Mi4 smartphone, which at the time seemed to be a rather modest upgrade over the Mi3. But now fresh reports are coming in, saying that we could witness the launch of Xiaomi Mi5 as early as xiaomi mi 5next month, at the crowded Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Xiaomi has quickly gained popularity in Asian markets, and now it seems that they are ready to take the USA by assault.

According to analyst Sun Changxu, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship device could feature super specs, such as a 5.7-inch 2K display, a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC with the Adreno 430 GPU, and a 20.7MP camera. If you’ve been following the news, then you know the Meizu MX4 has the same camera. There’s been talk of fingerprint scanner for the Mi5, which is definitely not impossible, considering how popular this feature has become.

The original source of the story insists that a CES launch could be on the cards, but we are not sure when exactly will Qualcomm be ready Snapdragon 810 for production, so let’s take this news with a grain of salt. Word on the street is that the phone will feature razor-thin bezels and will retain the affordable price just like other devices in Xiaomi’s lineup, with a price even being rumored – $325!

If Xiaomi does make it to the US shores, and it maintains the same price, then this could mean big problems for other OEMs, as consumers won’t think twice when seeing such great specs at such an affordable price.

  1. Really hope they don’t do a 5.7 inch Mi 5. At least a separate line for high-end phablets to separate from phones. Xiaomi have always made really practically sized phones and I hope they stick to that.

  2. Glad to see Xiaomi will hopefully make a decent sized phone. It’s time they caught up with where the industry is moving. 5.7″ sounds ideal, slightly smaller than the Nexus 6, but big enough that it can function as a tablet replacement.
