There have been a lot of rumors floating around Xiaomi’s 2015 lineup, one of which is the Xiaomi Mi5 which is expected to launch later this month (probably at CES?). But there are as many as 4 other phones Xiaomi is expected to launch in the next few weeks, and one of them is the Redmi 2S.
Yesterday, Xiaomi teased a phone which is scheduled to launch on January 4th (at CES?), and the expectations have been that it’s the Redmi 2S, which is an upgraded version of Redmi 1S with dual-LTE connectivity. And the latest leak shows the Redmi 2S posing next to its predecessor.
According to TENAA listing, the Redmi 2S will feature a 4.7-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage which is similar to Redmi 1S. But the difference is in the processor. It will be powered by the 64-bit quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor from Qualcomm clocked at 1.2GHz, and Adreno 306 GPU. The rear camera will be a 8MP shooter, while the front camera is expected to be a 2MP affair. The Redmi 2S will run on Android 4.4.2 with MIUI on top of it, with some rumors suggesting MIUI v6 instead of v5.
Looking at the images, the new Redmi 2S looks smaller and thinner than the Redmi 1S, but a bit wider as well. Initial reports in Chinese media suggested that the new device on TENAA is the Redmi 1S 4G, but the difference in sizes makes us root for 2S instead.
In addition to the Redmi 2S and Mi5, Xiaomi is expected to announce Redmi Note 2 as well as Arch which is apparently a dual-edge display. Although the company has confirmed that we will be seeing a flagship device this month, we feel it’s not time yet for the Mi5, and instead the Arch phone is the one touted as the next flagship. Let’s wait till January 4th for more details.
