It’s been a very important week for the Android ecosystem, as it has been announced that there have been shipped more than 1 billion devices in the entire world in 2014 alone. So for the huge amount of Android users out there, we present you our usual roundup of the newest and most notable Android apps and games for the past week. Do check out the previous list, as there are some must-download titles there. But now let’s get on with our current list.
Microsoft Outlook Preview (Free)
Microsoft has released last week the free Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps for Android tablets and also a totally new Outlook app for iPhone, iPad and Android owners. However, the app is in preview state yet, which means some features are limited. The new app will automatically triage your inbox for you, allowing you to swipe to quickly delete, archive, or schedule messages. You can also schedule emails to return to inbox, view and attach any file from your email, OneDrive, Dropbox, and other accounts; and do much, much more.
The new Bloodbones game from Tin Man Games developer lets you ‘set off on a journey of revenge against the dread pirate Cinnabar, who killed your parents, and sail the high seas‘. The game might seem too expensive for some, but Tin Man Games is known for making games that are visually impressive. You will be able to choose between full colour images, or toggle between the black-and-white originals from the print edition. Spoiler Alert ($0.99)
Spoiler Alert is an unusual new title where you must uncomplete the game by playing it backwards. It comes with very simple one-button gameplay, neautiful hand-drawn graphics, 4 unique and diverse worlds, original soundtrack by Roland La Goy, epic boss fights, upgrades and many different and unique enemies. The game has received many positive ratings from gaming websites, as well from those who downloaded it, so you need to check it out, as well.
LibreOffice Viewer (Free)
LibreOffice is the world’s most popular Open Source office tool, and rumor has it that an official app for Android is arleady on the cards. But until it gets released, you can make use of LibreOffice Viewer. Among the supported files, we find Open Document Format (.odt, .odp, .ods, .ots, .ott, .otp). Microsoft Office 2007/2010/2013 (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx, .dotx, .xltx, .ppsx) and Microsoft Office 97/2000/XP/2003 (.doc, .ppt, .xls, .dot, .xlt, .pps). A really useful tool when you’re dealing with a lot of documents from your smartphone or tablet.
Galaxy Trucker ($4.99)
Galaxy Trucker has been a very popular game for iPad users and it’s now coming to Android players, too. The game can be played with up to three other players, either online or on one shared device. This is a turn-based building system where your mission is to become the best galaxy trucker out there. The game features an epic trucking campaign, online quick duel mode, asynchronous or real-time online play, multiplayer single-tablet pass-and-play, 12 AI personalities for solo play, real-time or turn-based building and much, much more.
123D Sculpt+ (Free)
Autodesk’s new 123D Sculpt+ app for Android lets you create or sculpt anything. The 3D texturing and painting lets you apply your own photos directly onto the surface of your model, which is a really useful feature. The app also comes with a powerful skeleton builder which makes creating 3D objects quite easy. Even more, the app comes with 3D print ordering so you can turn your digital sculpture into a real physical object delivered to your door.
Defenders of Suntoria ($1.49)
Defenders of Suntoria from Melesta Games, just as the name suggests, is a brand new defender game for Android devices. It comes with 20 missions in 3 game modes: First Battle, One Life, and One Wave. You can choose and guide your hero: a Wizard, Barbarian, Archer or Knight. It’s also possible to upgrade and equip your mercenaries with the Sword of Destruction, Yew Bow and more. Thus, they will earn Karma points that they can then use to create new requests.
The official Android app for owners of MakerBot printers has been officially released on the Play Store. By using it, you can choose a downloadable digital design from Thingiverse or any 3D model file stored in your MakerBot Cloud Library, and then use MakerBot cloud servers to optimize, scale, and slice your design for 3D printing, layer-by-layer. It works with MakerBot Replicator, MakerBot Replicator Mini, and MakerBot Replicator Z18 and requires MakerBot Thingiverse app to be installed.
