Indian mobile handset company Lava has launched the new Iris X8 smartphone, the current flagship of its ‘iris X’ series. Launched at a price of 8,999 rupees it is entering perhaps the most competitive part, price-wise, of the booming Indian mobile market. It will have to take on many popular handsets, such as the Micromax Yureka, Xiaomi Redmi Note and others.


The Lava Iris X8 features a 5-inch HD IPS display with and features an octa-Core processor from MediaTek of a unmentioned frequency, 2GB RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. It runs on the Android KitKat 4.4, but an upgrade to Android 5.0 Lollipop is guaranteed (of course, a time-frame hasn’t been provided). It features a 8 MP primary BSI-III AF Camera with dual LED flash and a 3 megapixel front one. A 2500 mAh battery is powering the whole shebang.

Included with the smartphone is a high-end intelligent flip cover and the phone also comes with special features Smart Wake up & gesture. It also gets a smart swap technology that allows the user to switch SIMs on the go, without having to restart the handset. The Intelligent Flip allows users to access apps without having to switch to the main screen and the Smart Wake-up and Gesture controls lets them directly jump to applications from the locked screen.

The dual SIM equipped Iris X8 gets Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.0, but no 4G LTE. Navin Chawla, Vice President & Head Product, LAVA International said the following:

The Iris X8 has been carefully designed after understanding requirements of consumers who are looking for a good looking powerful smartphone which allows them with the ability to multi-task.”

The smartphone is available in white and black colours and it will go for sale across all national retail stores and multi-brand outlets. It will be available online exclusively on starting 12:00 noon from 9th Feb.
